I have started having a problem with my main monitor. When I turn it on the display will look like this

It is an IBM p96. It has two vga inputs on the back. I've discovered that if I switch back and forth between 1 and 2 it will eventually go away (I switch maybe 3 or 4 times) however this only seems to work if I don't have any video source on 2. This only seems to be a problem on the one input, is there anything I can do to clear it up? I have tried googling it but I am not exactly sure what is causing the problem so it's kind of hard.

Sorry the picture is so bad. I can't find my actual camera and just used the one on my phone. The screen is only curved like that on the top. The bottom doesn't have any problems at all.

Not to be snippy, but you might provide more information than that. The real question was what would be most likely to be causing this and can I do anything to fix it. "Buy a new one" doesn't answer either of those questions.

I'm going to suggest something that might sound stupid, but I had it happen before (in my case the soldering on the PCB was iffy).

Analog connections, such as VGA, are susceptible to distortion and other artifacts when the signal does not come through perfectly. Maybe the cable, the connector, or the PCB is disrupting the signal. That could explain why the problem gets temporarily fixed when you're switching the cable around, possibly you're just wiggling it enough to create a good connection again.

I don't actually switch the cable. The monitor has a built in monitor switch with two VGA inputs in the back and a switch on the front. So all I have to do is flip the switch to switch between video sources. It's much like an A/B switch you'd use for coax connection. That is an idea though. It hadn't occured to me it might be a physical problem since just flipping the switch back and forth a couple of times fixes it.
