I have shortcuts on my desktop that when I click them when it
pops up a microsoft office 2000 sr-1 premium install...
please wait while windows configures office 2000 sr-1 premium...when I cancel
this the program works like it should.

WT hell is it doing?

hoping that I can fix this somehow...its xp pro...been running for 2 yrs.

It's been a long time since I've used Office 2000, but I think you may need to insert the install media again and let that process run once and then it should be fine.

the office programs run fine.

I click on something like bandwidth monitor and this pops up.

There are 3 shortcuts on my desktop that have nothing to do with office and they do this.

It must be something with a shared dll or something.

At work i see that with symantec quite a bit. Either uninstall or reinstall it and it should take care of it.
