Is there an antidote?

I have six cores running F@H, trying to get a Mac Pro with dual 3.2Ghz Xeons borged and I wanted to know if there was a way to uninfect my borgs from the 2124 and 2125 5way_melt proteins. Thanks

No, just let them run. Stamford has assigned these units to you, and if you try to delete them it will delay their work. Even if you delete the work folder you will just get them reassigned to you, plus lose any crunching you've already done on them. It's not like you've got an old p3 which takes more than a week to spit one of these out.

Okay, I wasn't thinking of deleating them but I just don't like them, take too damn long.

Yeah know what you mean..been crunching on one for 6 days on and off now (no 24/7), and its 61%..ehh..

I always get these.

I'm so tempted to borg some random library compurters but I don't want to get arrested. Maybe with more computers Stanford will stop giving us the 2124 and 2125 proteins. Fold on!

Believe me, I hate these, keep getting them on my laptop, so it crunches for days and days for no real points (I think I get maybe 90PPD out of them), but still that is no reason to risk hurting your score or that of our team by illegal borging (Stanford has been known to penalize teams and members for this, I believe the Roos got hit last year by something similar).

Well, it's all for the cause so I'm fine just saving up and buying a C2D box and get that folding.

That's awefully quick for a celeron. I've seen the 2124s take 3 days on a C2D. They take 3-4 days on my 2Ghz CD.

It's a super celery boasting 128MB L1 Cache and 2GB L2 cache...

^^ no kidding... I think the last one took me 8 days on the POS emachines 2.8 cele at the office.

began November 24th@15:39, and it's at 17600/20000.
it's a celeron 336, running xp home, with 512 mb ram.

I fold them in around 3 days each.

The only antidote I know is the more of them YOU fold then the less there is for ME to do.
So Borg more.

Luck ........... :D

The “crappy” proteins we get once and a while have always happened. Like everything else it is cyclic and they will go away. Think of the times when you hit all the gravy units and it seems the good points will never stop.

What really bugs me is some of those much lower point work units can take twice as long as a 600 pointer.

It’s been a topic I have posted before on the official forums, VJ has never provided an acceptable answer. I guess revaluing them would be too hard.

How long are they taking on your 5060s? Are you running windows on that box, if so, fire up YURT, I'd like to see how the dempsey's do folding. I have a set of ES 5060s sitting on my desk that I'd eventually like to find a home for...

Edit: I was just on apples site, doesn't look like they have dempsey's available for the macpro. Did they used to offer them and just transitioned totally to woodcrest?

It seems everyone is sick of the 2114/2125 units, well, me too. I don't get very good production running two of them on my 4800+, I'm ready for some gravy train GBGROMACS stuff.

Amen to that.

About the credit for these units - it seems pretty off to me, too. I have a p4 3ghz box at work I fold on and they take longer than other units for the same points. Someone was smoking something over at stamford when they 'benchmarked' these.

Yeah they were smoking a piece of MooseHashes... :D

They are just bog-standard small Gromacs.
I get 396/75/2.2 = 2.4 Points per Hour per Ghz.
Thats not bad for a work unit with no bonuses.

Remember the 600 pointer big Gromacs work units carry a 100% points bonus.
Plus other work unit can give you a good bonus for running on new hardware.

So as long as your folding better than 2 PpHpG then its just a case of crunching them and hoping the next ones better next.

Luck ............... :D

Apple never used the Dempsey, they've only used Woodcrest and will presumably use Clovertown. I think a Mac Pro with Clovertowns would be a nice folder with the SMP client.
