Is there a problem with my 7970?

I've been running an XFX 7970 Core Edition for a little over a month. This is coming from crossfire 6950s @ 1536 shaders. I've noticed it seems noticeably louder than the crossfire setup. There is also random major screen tearing in games, which requires a restart to fix.

Are these known/common, or is my card perhaps defective?

and about the tearing, are you using eyefinity?

I have the same on my left monitor that i'm connected via active mini display port to hdmi, but It is not all the time and not in every game, middle monitor is ok via hdmi to hdmi and right monitor is ok too via passive mini display port to hdmi.
