Is there a channel difference?

Could anyone tell me if there is a performance difference or other drawback to using SATA channel 2 vs 1?

Well, it's more dependent on the chipset and motherboard, as well as the RAID controller. In most cases, the hardware RAID controller in the form of a Promise or something equivalent is the better solution to use, as it's normally more stable and less prone to data loss. Software RAID solutions are generally frowned upon because you rarely, if ever, notice a performance gain, but can easily encounter a buttload of stability problems. Usually the onboard and most reliable SATA channel for RAID is the primary, instead of a Southbridge chipset. Hope that helps...

That is good info, thx.

Let me be more specific. One Raptor HD, A8V Deluxe, using the second SATA channel on the VIA controller. Is this going to hurt me more than using the primary (SATA1) or are they equivalent as far as the MB and Win are concerned?

My VIA RAID tool says it is physically located on channel one so I don't think it should be a problem.
