Is The Witcher compatible with GamePads?

Namely the Xbox 360 controller? I'm going to be getting a new PC soon and would like to play The Witcher. I'm all for Kb/m but it looks like The Witcher would be a good game to sit back and play with a 360 controller. Does anyone know if the game supports the 360 controller?

I don't think The Witcher supports gamepads.
However, you can get gamepad support with third-party software.

The best software I've found so far is Pinnacle Game Profiler.

Playing with a gamepad doesn't seem like that great an idea, though, seeing as how The Witcher is a point-and-click-type game.

god I hope not.

I guess every xbox player thinks their controller is god and that it should work with everything. Including FPS and RPGs that are made for mouse+keyboard.

The Witcher depends on point and clicking so a mouse+keyboard is definitely the way to go. It doesn't support gamepads to my knowledge.

Ranting is for baby back bitches :)

It was just a question, calm down. I've also been gayming on PC long before I started gayming on a console

What are you talking about man?! the 360 controller is made for EVERYTHING! ;):D

Nothing wrong with supporting multiple control methods no matter what you think the game is "designed" for. Grand Theft Auto was "designed" for a pad, but you'll never hear me whine when people used a KB/M for it.

The KBM controls in The Witcher are nothing special. I don't see what's so wrong with him wanting to play the game the way he wants to.

It would seem to me that the Witcher is halfway to a console control scheme anyway. For example how you switch sword styles, its a one button operation. There is little interaction in combat, its all timing based. The skills, when you level up, are in a radial type menu. What exactly wouldn't work on a controller, in Witcher?

I know it's been nearly 3 years since this thread has been created but seeing as how it's the first google result for "Witcher gamepad" I thought I'd share my solution.

First, download XPadder:
http://www.xpadder.com/

Then, go through the controller settings and set up your gamepad. You can also download a controller image here (note: if you have one of the major 3 gamepads such as 360, ps3, or logitech rumblepad just download the settings file in the zip at the bottom of this post):
http://xpadder.com/gcdb.php?command=promptfornewcontrollerimage&make=Logitech&model=Rumblepad 2

Finally, download this file into XPadder to set up the witcher (works on 360 gamepad, logitech gamepads, ps3, and others with the same layout):

http://cloudstew.com/files/XPadder Witcher.zip

The zip file also contains controller settings for the 360 controller, PS3 controller, and Rumblepad controllers so you don't have to set them up individually.

Have fun!

Believe it or not some people want to kick back in their recliner and enjoy the best of both worlds. (PC gaming on a HDTV and gamepad.)

And did that guy really say "gayming"? Thats funny shit.

Get a good wireless Mouse and Keyboard for your HTPC (these are the ones I use with mine, but there's probably better KB's out there now) and you won't have to worry about this. I have several 360 controllers on mine that can be used for driving/fighting/hotseat games, but a hardcore-rpg like witcher is not a game I would ever consider using a gamepad for.

This is a PC game! which means Keyboard and Mouse! trash that gamepad! :p

XBOX SACRILIGE! PC ELITE UNITE!

.....so the dude wants to play a game with a gamepad, so let him don't berate him for it. A lot of you swear by KB/M but I'd be money I could beat some of you with a 360 controller. Most PC gamers don't even use an optimal sensitivity, wayyy too high usually.

I'm finally getting around to playing the game and in all honesty it actually would likely do better with a gamepad. Like Draax mentioned, all of the toggles are done by hitting the same button or two over and over.
You rarely need to use the mouse cursor, and when you do it could just as easily be done with the crosshair like in Oblivion.
I have yet to run into anything that couldn't be done with a gamepad just as well...and again, I think it's because of the design of the game.
It's likely why gamepad support in the 2nd game is so good. The game seems to favor it.

I don't see how you'd navigate inventory with a gamepad in this game. Otherwise, the combat, movement, etc would work fine.

Maybe a few people. Otherwise that would be pretty difficult, depending on the game. With a game like this, yea, a controller would work as well as KB/M.

Lol - didn't realize this thread was such an old necro. I can see why the OP wanted a better solution for his HTPC, since the G700 hadn't been invented yet in 2008. Now there is no excuse. :p

Btw, I still haven't actually played either of TheWitcher games, so I really shouldn't be posting here at all.

I wasn't necessariliy picking on TW1. I would prefer KB/M in TW1 but the TW2 and a lot of other 3rd person games really lend themselves nicely to a gamepad.

I was talking about FPS. There's probably a lot of people on here that would get worked by somebody whos actually good at FPS and using a controller.

Perhaps. Though, the ones getting worked wouldn't exactly be people good at FPS with KB/M. There are a decent chunk of folks that can't comprehend the control scheme. Luckily, they pad my k/d ratio.

Personally, I have no problem with controllers, I use them in a few games. I consider myself to be quite good with one. Though given the option, I wouldn't touch one for FPS.

Agreed Sir. Halo is about the only thing I enjoy with a GamePad. I'll tollerate others but I don't really enjoy. Though it is fun kicking my friends ass' in their own games. :)
