soltek n3 250gb m/b 757 pin any good? :)

if not.. which m/b should i get for 757 or anything newer but sitll support agp card..

thanks in advance!! :)

It's crap. I'd know, since I own one. Dont get any other S754 board other than the DFI Lanparty 250GB. It's more fruitful and just as stable as the best of them. It's way more stable than the nForce 4 DFI's.

really?? but the dfi 250gb costs about 35 dollars more then soltek.... worth it?

The 754 dfi nf3 250 is the best overclocking board in s754 pin. you wont be dissapointed just more likely confused with ALL the bios options.

Personally I'd recommend a S939 processor on an Abit or Asus AGP board using the NForce 3 or VIA K8T880 chipset. Such as the Asus A8V or the Abit AV8. Solid overclocking performance and I don't care what anyone says, they are higher quality than DFI.

Soltek is not much better than ECS or PC-Chips. Crap at best.

Screw socket 754. I don't know why it has this cult fallowing. ITS A STOCKET PEOPLE. A dead end one at that. Much more so than S939 is. Athlon 64's aren't made in S754 anymore. At least no new ones will be. Semprons only. If you want to save a couple bucks than I suppose its fine. Just so long as you know what your getting into. Single channel memory only, and older core Athlon 64's. Usually you've only got 3 memory sockets which I find detestable.

Believe me Socket 939 W/Venice/Manchester core CPU's is where its at. Better overclocking, better memory controller. Better all the way. Surprisingly not too expensive either.

My personal opinion. Take it however you like.

They are just messing around, having some fun. I think it is kinda cool that they support it. Just because something isnt COMPLETLY bleeding edge EXTREME doesnt mean that it is dead in the water.

is it really dead? and single memory and better oc ?? and better memory controller? what does that mean?

Socket 764 CPU's use memory in single channel mode which offers less bandwidth than socket 939 processors which are capable of using memory in dual channel mode.

The S939 90nm CPU's tend to OC alot better than Socket 754 CPU's. The new Venice and San Diego 90nm CPU's are even better overclockers. Thus, the memory controller on the socket 939 CPU's is "improved". The Venice/San Diego CPU's are even better. They can run with tighter memory timings and with more memory modules present. These are typically reffered to as "Rev E" CPU's.

Even the older Socket 939 130nm processors have at the very least the superior memory controller.

Now I may be getting the Manchester confused with San Diego cores. Anyway the information is still accurate. Socket 939 CPU's are newer, and have better memory controllers and are better overclockers. You have more processor choices with Socket 939, you have the option for single and dual core processors, you do not with socket 754.

Socket 939 is the way to go. Its not that much more expensive than 754 anymore. You'll shell out a few bucks more for a S939 board. You can still get excellent boards for around $130-$140.

they still make s754 in the mobile variety. Thats all amd notebooks carry. They have a brand new core and its tdp is 35w and they work in the dfi board and chaintech and msi boards. ps they overclock like hell and run very cool. I have an earlier 62w and i get it up to 2750! :D

Yeah, I didn't say they were crap or anything. If building a desktop, I simply think that S939 is worth the small price increase.

I hear ya but some of us early adopters dont want to shell out for a pci-e card and a new motherboard just pop out the cpu and drop a newer true mobile and crank her up. helluva lot cheaper than going full bore 939 and we bench pretty well. :)

i'm definetly going 939pin when I see some solid results with the new dual cores. 4400 is going to be my new baby!

Right, I understand that. or high end Socket 754 CPU owners the upgrade path may not make sense at first or be cost effective.

For anyone building a PC today that has to buy a motherboard AND cpu, 939 is the better overall choice.

It's not THAT bad, sheesh. It's one of the fastest nf3 boards at stock speeds. I own one and think it's a great board. Just don't pair it with a CPU that has a multi lower then 10x as the FSB settings do not go over 250 in bios. If you find you need to go over 250 fsb you can always use clockgen.

Alot of info in this thread here.

I whole heartedly agree but this platform was good to us early adopters .939 is the way to go. :D

thanks guys

I am pretty glad, this forum has changed for the better.. everyone is really helpful and nice and kind... unlike 2-3 years ago.. when I ask certain questions... a lot of people were rude and unhelpful and kept calling each other names like "noobs" ... or "stfu"...

but again, thanks all now.... :)
