I'm not exactly sure how much damage was done to the system overall, but if I can fix it that would be great. I used to use primochill 32oz coolant in my system, but when I ran out I started using destilled water, bottled water, and tap water. Its probably been about a year since I had primochill. The thing is I don't know how much damage this could have caused to the watercooling loop, but if I can fix it I would like to try with the proper chemicals. This is why I have been leaning torwards just buying an air cooler and being done with this whole wc setup. Fear of damage due to those coolant types being used over a long period of time.

The waterblock is a Q6600 G0 on a D-Tek fuzion, rad is a PA 120.3, and Laing D5 w/ DCT-01 Top

I had a roommate who had water cooling. He once asked me for a favor and that entailed filling one of my shot glasses with tap water, which was sitting in a cabinet probably collecting dust, so that he could refill his loop.
 
I would not worry about that at all. The reason for using distilled water over tap water is distilled water is not very electrically conductive while tap water does conduct electricity. And the reason for wanting it to not conduct electricity is if it leaked on your motherboard ... it could cause damage.
 
thank you, I was worried about rust and other particles damaging the blocks and radiator by not using coolant like primochill or some other brands. My system fills with a swiftech reservoir that swings out from the case :)
 
The inner parts should be brass, copper, aluminum ... or some other material that does not rust quickly..
 
Using different coolants will not have "damaged" you system. Worst case the Primochill may have left some crud in you blocks.

Tap water is not a good idea due to the additives they use (chloramines etc) and more importantly the possibility of "hard water" leaving deposits in your system.

I have a friend who has used tap water for years with no ill effects; he has very soft water however.

Distilled water does offer some protection initially from conductivity, but as soon as it starts scrubbing copper, aluminum etc off the block, it loses its non conductivity. Distilled water should be used for it's purity, not its non conduciveness.

Take your blocks apart and give them a good cleaning with some soapy water and vinegar. You will be fine.

If I wanted to add gpu block to this loop, would a pa 120.1 be plenty to cool a 460/260? I'm guessing that putting the gtx 260/460 on the main loop would affect the maximium overclock of the cpu.
 
Make sure you flush it after using vinegar. Possibly with distilled water..
 
or just run it with drain-o then flush it =P

do you have clear tubing? how does it look?

if you are worried about the blocks, you can always take em apart and swab em just to check.

Yes I would think so. You could add both the GPU block and the extra Rad to the existing the loop. Personally I think that unless you are running WC'd 480's in SLI and a cooled chipset, dual loops are a waste of time.

not really...all coolant becomes conductive after a while... and a non conductive coolant is still conductive to an extent any ways...

the real reason that you don't use tap water is that tap water tends to have stuff in it that tends to grow... distilled does not :)

to the OP: just fill a clean pot with distilled water and boil the metal parts... then run hot steamy water through the radiator as well.

do not boil the blocks rubber seals, the block should be fully taken apart
