I'm going to have a TDX block cooling a Athlon X2 4200+ and an MCW55 cooling a 6800 GT. I plan to use the swiftech mcp350 pump. I want a quiet system so I want to use a low CFM fan. Also, my radiator will be mounted externally. Is the black ice pro my best bet? Would the BIX perform any better with a panaflo L1A 120mm fan or a similar low speed fan?

is the BIP radiator enough?

That's essentially what I was running before my X850XT died (my fault). My temps didn't move, really. I couldn't get my processor over 40*C no matter what I ran, and my 850XTwas always in good range. I was running a BIP2. A BIP probably won't handle it.

a BIX would perform worse with a low noise fan than the BIP. neither is enough to keep good temps on a rig like that.
thermochill PA160.1 is the top-end rad for low noise cooling. a BIP2 or a thermochill HE120.2 or PA120.2 would also do, with slightly better performance, and slightly more noise.

I'd still really like to use a single 120mm radiator + fan though (preferably one that doesn't cost $90). What kind of temperature difference would there be between the BIP and BIP2? I can live with a few more degrees C if it means a more compact, quieter setup. I won't really be doing any extreme overclocking.

well, it sounds like you want to have your cake and eat it too.
incidently, the swiftech MCW6000 would work better with your choosen pump than the TDX, and be a bit cheaper.
i'm not one of the people aroung here who can quantify all of the performance gains and losses of various systems, however i think that you will take a performance loss by running a single 120 mm rad to cool both CPU and GPU, unless you are running a 30 db fan on there.
have you considered a radbox, and a double rad?

I've considered using a 120x2 rad but i want to use a small form factor case and it doesn't make sense. Maybe i'm just expecting too much to have a quiet, high performance watercooling setup in a sff. I'll have to decide what tradeoffs I want to make.

My system is kept in a basement where the ambient temps are fairly cool.. The single core was fine for just the CPU, but with the GPU it just won't cut it when the ambient temps are higher like at my friends house. I'm adding a second core to try and remove the heat better.
