Is the amd wx9100 a full vega 64?

If the numbers are correct, than the wx9100 is a full 64.(with a incredible small cuts that in game environment shoud translate in no more than 5 fps loss?)Not that I will game that much on it.

But if the specs are true and the 2 gpus have identical performance, than why the wx9100 is rated a 230w and the 64 is at 300w???
Maybe its a power plan in the drivers that can get changed,or the gpu has more severe cuts in raw performance?

I'm asking as I found one wx9100 at acceptable price and I can retire my old k4200.

I would assume the difference is binning and a BIOS that reflects lower voltage per state.

By state I supose you mean switching between the gaming and 3d drivers?

the difference is 8GB of RAM and pro drivers.

I would think so and not sure if AMD will continue the FE line when basically it uses the same professional drivers as their wx line, GPU etc. Vega FE was a complete steal for Professional workloads.

ECC is disabled on vega FE. Gotta buy wx card for that.

The FE is too loud and hot and i think discontinued?I coud get the wx9100 for 950€ from a retailer i know. But still i had in the back of my mind, since its suposed to be a full vega 64 than why the big difference in tdp? Something has to be missing from the WX vs the gaming variant.Just dont know what.

No I meant the 0-7 states the hardware switches between based on load. The idle and full load states are the ones that matter the most when it comes to TDP.

The WX has the same peak clocks as the gaming edition, but is much less aggressively tuned, so under heavy load it will drop out of boost much more frequently. It's a pretty well-known fact that the gaming Vegas (especially 64) are too aggressively clocked to be efficient; they have very little OC headroom and in fact some people underclock them to cool them down.

Thank you.So it is just a stock vega 64 in raw performance (with probably 5% loss in demanding tasks like games?)Most probably using a balanced power plan.

No, the overall performance will be lower than a Vega 64 in anything that doesn't take advantage of the certified drivers. Some professional tasks are very light (CAD, for example, barely touches the shaders), so the card can boost very high in those situations without exceeding its TDP.

Just found a small topic on the amd forums with someone that owns 14 of these in his company and was kind of angry as they were developing for vr and werent getting the raw performance of a vega 64, and stated that at best, the wx9100 is just a vega 56 level.

Thank you guys for the info.Looks like I will be hunting for another gpu for the workstation.

Pretty sure the whole point of the pro models/drivers was double the HBM, stability, and support. If they are hitting VRAM bottlenecks with a Vega56/64 then the Pro line will help but otherwise I don't understand what he was expecting.

From what I read,it wasn't about vram but it was about wanting higher framerate. The problem is that some content creators(even me)like/desire to have the best workstation graphics we can afford and have a all in one gpu for heavy modeling scene and for game testing(which is gaming)(gpus like titan xp or gtx titan have awesome viewport fps but a slow polygone selection in heavy scenes so its a no go).He got the modeling portion but was most probably disappointed that the gpu didn't provided the vega 64 performance as he was expecting as the 2 gpus have 99% identical clocks speed but the wx9100 was limited by most probably a power plan or something.Dont care much about it right now and I did mentioned that on the amd developers forums as I suspect it coud be somehow fixed with a driver if they wanted to do so.

I did sended a few emails and if I get any interesting info,i will update here.
Cheers and thank you again for the help guys.

The WX9100 will allow you to install the gaming driver once the professional driver is installed. You just can'tuse crossfire when using the gaming driver with dual cards like you can the Vega FE.

Interesting. In the market where I can make use of both feature sets so this is something I'll keep an eye on, now also getting into tensorflow and neural networking stuff which is exciting.

Yeah, saw that one a week ago.If this is true

    https://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/3303/radeon-pro-wx-8200

than it shoud be the best version of all vega 56?I mean, way higher memory clocks and higher bandwidth than a stock vega 56.Looks interesting indeed.Just not sure if 8gb are enough for 4k development/gaming or just enough to cut in.

Vega FE has a full vega chip and 16GB HBM also has professional driver and gaming mode

are you ok paying 999 for 8GB?

you can get a full vega GPU with 16fgb for only 550usd https://www.ebay.com/itm/AMD-Radeon...681098&hash=item33f268c838:g:nWsAAOSwYFtbetkQ

    or 510usd

Wow that Radeon FE 16 GB looks like a tantalizing workstation/gaming gpu hybrid. And the fact you can get it for $550 used and still get a gpu that can run pro applications?

That makes it a bargain in my book even if in most cases it doesn't beat the GTX 1080 for gaming, still you can't use that same GTX 1080 for workstation applications.

Anyone know if the WX 8200 has shipped yet? Newegg was letting people pre-order up to 5 for the last 2 1/2 weeks now it's listed as sold out.

Saw that too.My guess is that the gpu will:
-be produced in small units because new gpus will come in a few months

-newegg didnt order anything because since it was listed, probably no one pre ordered it

-the wx8200 shoud have been released a year ago as a wx8100.Makes no sence on the market now

-personal thought: amds workstation market is at its lowest level ever.Promotion side included :(

I would have no problem buying into a Vega as a professional card. AMD/RTG is really good on the compute side. Once I get my Threadripper system built in the next two years I'm hoping to slap a compute card or two in there.

Not sure what I think about lack of availability though. Hopefully that situation sorts itself out by the time I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new workstation.

I've never seen a VEGA 56 WITH Samsung ram that cannot do 1000+mHz on sir or 1100+ on water with the LC 64 bios.

That being said, not having to "OC" has an appeal to it for some people.
