i just got fios and i've read bad things about the actiontec router. is it fine to use? i also have an smc barricade. should i hook that up? i'm supposed to keep the actiontec always connected for some reason, so could i plug the cat 5 into the actiontec, and run the first computer out of the actiontec into the smc (then split to other computers) ?

oh i thought they provide the same model. mi424wr does wireless too. i've read only bad things about this router...and i have this other one (which i know nothinga bout).

That router is kinda junkie.. My wireless machines would lose their ip addresses every hour. I switched it out with a WRT54G with tibor. Never had any problems after that.

If you do decide to use your own router...I'd change the Actiontec to bridged mode. Else you'll end up double NAT'ing, which IMO is not the ideal setup.

I've read people saying some Actiontecs have some pretty high end features....that they were surprised to find. (at least the models Verizon sometimes uses with their fiber setups)

i won't be using it for wireless...but like i said i have this other router and i'm pretty sure i have to use the actiontec. what would be the best setup? i'm just lost...
