its been a while, and i noticed on the frontpage that the 9600 chipset took the win for the year. i JUST ordered a 9800 pro 128 for my new system, i didnt get pwned did i?

No, the 9800 based cards still own the 9600 based cards. The 9600 is such a big deal to some because of the bang-for-the-buck it provides. They are fast cards that cost alot less than the 9800's, but they're still mid-range to upper mid-range cards. Whereas the 9800, 9800 Pro and 9800 XT are high-end to really high-end cards.

Well both 9800 PRO and 9800 XT is high end. The only difference that the 9800XT is so much more expensive.

Hey, bro

You make me proud for a while coz I got an 9800 Pro for my machine.

I did want to upgrade to XT, but I do not now. I heard a lot of ideas about 9800 Pro is a better choice between 9800XT and Pro

Wrong.

Not sure how many more times you have to be told.

That really wasn't needed at all.

To the OP: You made a damn fine decision and I am sure you will be happy with that card.

Both the company and the chipset are wrong.

0/2, care to try again?

People keep saying the 9800Pro is the same as the 9800XT. There's a fine gap between the 9800XT 3dmark scores and the 9800Pro. Plus, the XT models are based on refined/revised 9800Pro's. So it's like do you buy the old Series 1 TiVo or the Series 2 TiVo?

Add in the free HalfLife2 (a $50 value) and 256megs of ram, you have about the same bang for the buck if you do the right searching.

I got my XT card for $400, I've seen tons of people get theirs for $375 (+15 shipping) on Ebay. It's not that much of a difference to have the current top of the line card that is out.

The only reason the XT's are $450-$500 in stores is simply because ATI & Valve want to counter-weight the $50 for HalfLife2. You *think* you're getting HalfLife2 for free, but you're really not. You're just paying for it in a higher cost for the card.

I've seen OEM Radeon 9800XT's go for $400 in the store, that's because they don't come with HalfLife2 most of the time. So as you, the counterweight is removed, and the card drops in price. If you pay $400 (like most people should) for the card, you minus the $50 for the HL2, and you basically equal out with a Radeon 9800Pro 256meg card ($350 last I checked).

Soooo, when we gonna be seeing the r420... I got money to spend and its burning to get me a new vidcard...
