Id just like to know if paying the 5$ is really worth it to get Gen mayhem, Soap Box and something else.. i know its for a year, but i really dont have 5$ to spend, plus i dont really know what im getting..

If possible, would the mods make some kind limited account to view the threads but not interact with them for unpaid people..

like if right now i could go into general mayhem, see the sections and threads, but all the names are removed.. or maybe only like the first post can be read or something.. i dunno, maybe im just crazy, but i just dont like blindly spending 5$ since i dont have a job.. mods have alot of posts "Moved to general mayhem" but how does that help if some/most? of us cant get into it.. i was here 3 months before i found out general mayhem wasnt even visible.. is there something we can do about this..

There are periodic times when GenMay is made "read-only" for a few days, and you can watch for the announcements on the front page. I personally think its a great bargain. Having to buy a sub ensures that the person:

  • Has to care enough to pay.
  • Is intelligent enough to setup and use a paypal account.

That knocks out 99% of trolls, and the admins do a skippy job if any others arise (not often). There are a lot of really nice folks there, and it's almost always good for at least a few laughs.

 
Well the way I see it for starters is this forum isn't free, it takes lots of work and money to keep it going. If nothing else, consider it a donation to the hard working people like Kyle and the rest of the Admins/Mods who keep the [H] going.
 
I've said it several times that GM is well worth it. It costs the same as a quick meal at McDonald's and it won't give you gas or the runs.......well most of the time :p
 
Oh, and if you do subscribe to GM, get the lifetime subscription. It is a far better deal at $15 for 30 years instead of $5 for each year. I think it was well worth my $15 for the subscribtion to GM.
 
It's completely worth it... I paid for a life membership... i don't know.. i think it was a good investment.. for the hours of entertainment it gives VS the amount you pay.. it's a great deal..lol
 
I got my first peak at Gen May. during the previews they periodically do as well and thats what help me make up my mind. If you don't have enough cash right now for the lifetime membership then just do the one year sub. Just like the other guys have said. 5 bucks is a McDonald meal or pack of smokes, well worth it for the fun you get, plus contributing to the community.
 
Buy the lifetime! Genmay is like a sitcom disfunctional family. It is SO worth the coin. You read some of the funniest stuff on the net there. And as an added bonus, Web Linkage Worth Clicking. Plenty of laughs when you're bored :)

 
If you can't afford 5 dollars, you probably should consider getting some kind of job. I don't want to sound like an asshole, but 5 dollars? That's pretty petty.
 
if you pay $5 for a year or $15 for life, what says that this forum doesn't make it that long?

looks like you out 5 or 15 bucks... but even if it only lasts another year or so, I've spent far more and got a lot less (especially with video games and movies).
 
yeah, ive been trying to get a job, for 4 months now, i even have a poll on wether or not ill get a job with maxtor or not.. ive applied everywhere i can tolerate working.. and ive gotten jack, im not going back to retail, ive proven myself there, time to move up in the world..]


so it looks like i dont get GM and i keep 5$.. for now..

QFT....I hear this argument on a daily basis, mostly from people who don't even flinch spending $250 or more on a vid card....the logic escapes me. I'm not raggin' on anyone who wishes not to spend $5 bucks on a subscription, I just find it hard to imagine anyone who doesn't have $5 bucks laying around in change and wants to join. To each his own, I suppose.

QFT here too....I am gonna do it soon, and I really don't see how you can have such a problem dishing out just 5 bucks...I mean...it's FIVE BUCKS...you could magically stumble upon 5 bucks....I mean.....ask a parent or a friend or....ya know, someone.... :rolleyes:

If I was interested I'd definitely shell out 5 bucks for a subscriptiont, but a general discussion forum is just something I personally am not interested in.
 
i just feel 5$ isnt worth what you get.. i mean, i love [H] to death, and id love to support them, and i would donate if i had the $$, but 5$ to me is like a bar of gold, i keep it in a lockbox under my bed and defend it with my life.. and people pay the 250$ for the video card, but they have to use the last 5$ to buy ramens so they can eat for the next week..

My subscription ended few days ago (1 year sub)....

And I posted in there all of once or twice... read it for a few days... I'll be 100% honest and share my opinion - it's not quite as good as GenMay if you're looking for laughs. I mostly paid for the subscription to help out Kyle and the board/etc... and I feel now that it's not needed quite so much.

It amazes me, really.


I assumed the #1 complaint would be lack of ability to pay (e.g., no paypal, no CC, etc), rather than its "too expensive".

Hell, $5 is less than lunch, dinner, a movie, etc, and will give you hours more fun.

I should have just paid for the lifetime memborship. Now I put 20 bucks into this giggle factory. :D

It's fucking worth it. I'd rather have it there than not there. It's like you could have something but you don't unless you let go of the $$. That won't even buy you 2 gallons of gas. If you need 5 bucks that badly, you should have got the 7800GT, not the GTX.

 
I think that I spend more time in the GenMay forum reading through everything than I do in any other forum now. Its well worth ever cent... hell Id pay more.

General Mayhem is its own little community. It's a cozy place where you can kick back and have some fun among friends and make new friends while you're at it. apHytHiaTe, I remember when you did a face plant from off that bicycle (and posted pics - yikes! :eek: ), and when your dad died and you posted a touching tribute.

I will do my part and maybe bug Kyle about making the "sneak preview weekends" a bit more regular. ;)

Is it worth it? It entirely depends. For me, no. Its just a couple subforums. However, I am not much of a forum "chatter".

However, when a site gets this big I feel like tossing any help I can there way. 5 bucks is nothing now a days. As someone else said...its less than one fast food meal. Consider it a donation with a perk. Thats what I did anyways.
 
GenMay is a great place for the forum moderators and administrators to post all of the off topic things they have wanted to post elsewhere, but couldn't for the same reasons the members couldn't. It makes it much easier having a place to go to blow off steam and post anything that comes to mind....it makes it so much easier to work in the other forums :cool:
