I get bored of the way xp looks and I use stylexp from time to time and I was thinking about installing it on my new machine. And I know there's a option on the program to use no system resources but is that legit, because It seemed like after I install it my machine seems slower to shut down and come on.

Thanx in advance for any help ;)

To be honest I used stylexp for a while but it caused me to many headaches to list. Got a lot of BSOD's when I was running it. Switched to Neowin's themepatcher and have never looked back. All the themepatcher does is modify Windows own theme dll file which then allows you to run unregistered themes which you can find at places like www.deviantart.com

Same here. I ditched Style XP for neowin's patcher. No extra processes or programs running to do this. A simple patch and you are on your way to XP theming heaven.

You can get the neowin patcher from here

I've had no problems with StyleXP. I guess I've been lucky. Slap on OpusOS and boom I'm set.

I have used StyleXP for years now and I think it is an awesome program! I am unsure of how it would affect system performance since it requires no process to work? Maybe a slight increase in memory if it is a image heavy theme. But you can kill any StyleXP process and have it still run, 100x better performance than WindowBlinds

So how does this work,I download neowin patch then install it,and afterwards any theme will work,if so how do I install, because on stylexp you double click on the vis.exe after download and it installs and your done.So how does the neowin process work.Sorry for some many questions but I would really like to try this instead of stylexp but I'm not familiar with the neowin process.

You basically have to download visual styles and then you just extract theme to c:\windows\resources\themes. Then when you go to display settings -> appearance your new theme should appear in the drop down box.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't have any problems with stylexp. Just more than what I needed. Of course, I am anal about running a minimalistic system when something can be done as simple as the patch. Just all about preference.

i used style XP before and it blue screened and crashed my system, i had to reload it.. I would stay away from it
