Is Steam down?

I'm pissed. The one time I want to play CS this week Steam is down. WTF? Anyone found any info yet?

gar gar gar

I can't login in my Steam account and steampowered.com isn't loading either.

grrrr.....

There is nothing routine about this. I was getting network timeouts to steampowered.com as well

Its UP (at least here) but its pretty slow.

I just started couple games and they work OK

According to the Steam forums, they have some sort of network problems. No more details have been given that I can find.

Ugh, I just finished reinstalling XP and I wanted to play my steam games, nooooo!

Unable to play the games YOU bought just because their servers are down is just ridiculous!

They should have at least implement some "grace" period that lets you in without authenticating in case something like this happen.

For me too. Pretty much every game I want to play is on Steam. Games for Windows Live seems to not work for me either.

Ha.

Not to mention if your account ever gets disabled because of a hacker or something, you've just lost those $500 or however many you spent on those games on your account!

I cant login too. Guess I'll have to wait it out. I was ready to a sit down of TF2.. Ahhh!

Thats BS!

If his account were stolen it wouldnt be permanently dissabled - he would just contact Steam Support with proof of purchase - after that Valve would send him new login.

turn off your connection and load steam in offline mode

Tried that, it comes up with something like the password not stored in the computer which is BS as save password checkbox is ticked and I was just playing TF2 online yesterday.

I meant if someone got the details to someone's account and would hack on it, the account could get disabled.

Even if an account gets recalled too much it can be disabled

No it wouldnt be disabled - he would be VAC banned (and that would happen only he someone used his account to cheat at VAC protected servers) which is BIG difference.

Whenever my internet goes down and I turn my computer on and Steam fails to load, everytime it asks to be in offline mode, not sure why some poeple dont get this option.

Preventing the loss of a Steam account is pretty easy, don't type your password to people claiming to be Valve Reps. Making sure you don't have a key logger helps to.

Steam works for me btw.

OK... point is Valve CAN disable accounts, preventing you access to ALL the games you bought

It was down for a little while. I got back in by logging out and then at the community page, logging in again manually.

EULA or it didn't happen.

Denying you games that you purchased and have proof of purchase of? I'm pretty sure that has lawsuit written all over it. You must be one of those people that are anti-steam and troll around.

Not hard to get your account restored... I've had it happen in the past and they're pretty good about it.

I'm not about to read through the EULA, but they can disable accounts. I have one account that was disabled because I shared it with a friend.

It only had HL2 luckily

I'm not anti-steam at all, I actually have a good number of games on my account. Someone made a funny comment on page 1 that was negative and I followed up with a random fact.

Yes, I shared, against EULA, etc. I don't really mind it, it was the only time I shared and I don't support sharing but he had a bad computer and wanted to try it out, turns out it worked fine and he just wanted to keep using it so I let him. But what I'm showing is just proof that they can deny you access to all the games you paid for. Not just banning from online play, but offline as well

+1, Rebel44. Then again he'd have to know what he was talking about first. Seems like less and less people do on this sub-forum, daily.

I didn't have any problems with Steam yesterday. I played some TF2 in the afternoon then a few hours of L4D last night.

It was only around 7:30. I actually did the same thing you did: TF2 in the afternoon, L4D at night. ;)

I'm so sick of waiting so long for GTA3 to launch due to online permission checks, statistics, ect. It actually takes just as long to launch on PC as it takes to load on a slow playstation 2 DVD drive.
