Hi Tony,

If you are doing so, i hope you revert back to RV02/FT02 designs.

FT02 thread have 3700 posts and 1million view!

FT05 no thread in sight. I dont think the core buyers are buying it. Hence defeats the idea that a cheaper/smaller casing will sell more.

FT03 - weird choice
RV03 - regressed design.
FT04/RV04 - lazy design
FT05/RV05 - failed attempt to tap the cheaper crowd

I plead FT06/RV06 to be like FT02, big case, 3xAP181, same window side.

I seen mods of FT02, i think it works as well for WC setup, with 3x180mm rads on the AP fans! And the top 120mm rad is possible. Plentiful of cooling OC CPU/GPU imo.

But you need cut to three 5.25" bays. 1 for optical drive, 2 for potential bay res.

Move the HDD cage upwards to accommodate rad mounting

Move the motherboard tray higher so fans/rad can slide in/out easier.

Increase the back area for cable routing..

Profit.

But you guys keep making bad decisions.

You can cut down to from 200 to 150 and from 150 to 100. But who to say the cheap buyers wont look for 100 to 50 cases?

You need to tap back the 1million viewers FT02/RV02, core PC dudes are willing to spend for good value stuffs.

Thanks for the feedbacks danxi! We've had plenty of feedbacks like yours from other users as well. We haven't forgotten about you guys, we simply wanted to do things we haven't done before first before coming back to updating our older products.

But at least for this year, there won't be a RV06 or FT06.

I too thought the 04 was deeply disappointing, however i believe the 05 was a return to form.

a third 180mm is lovely of course, but only really made sense if there were a tonne of 5.25" bays to occupy the space, and I have zero need for these.

Modern version of FT2 with 3x180mm that drops 5,25" would be awesome IMHO - they could use that space for whole colony of 3,5 and 2,5 drives and add E-ATX mobo compatibility while also giving more space for multi gpu configurations.

And it would have monolitic full aluminium front without 5,25" covers :D

5.25" bays are good option for bay res. So i think its still needed, at least 3 slots.

FT05 looks a half successor to FT02 because of the smaller volume which restricts it to mainstream build imo. Dont think people with a 4.5Ghz i7 4790K + SLI GPU or X99 will look to FT05. The mainstream buyers either go for slick advertised Corsair/Fractal or down to cheaper like Azza or CM. These big cases are reviewed to be easier to piece your rig together, and accommodate the highly popular 2x120mm AIO WC.

Mods i seen for FT02 to accommodate WC
-cut the drive cage
-cut the 5.25" bay
-cut the motherboard plate
-remove the fans holder
-apply magnetic air filters on the outside
-drilling res holder on the top.
-hiding pump-res inside the plentiful 5.25" bays.

A lot of these can be easily incorporated to FT02v2 without much changes to the manufacturing mold.

I'd imagine the reviewers and core buyers will give this upgrade a huge applause. Superior 3x180mm air cooling AND easily upgraded to 3x1800mm WC! Larger space to work your build.

My FT02 is getting old, rusted, cuts & scratches with weakened screw threads, however i see no good casing to change. Changing back to FT02 is non-progressive and a PITA to WC it. FT05? Pointless.

The only option atm is Corsair Air 540, but i heard the panel quality rattles just like FT05.

FT02 is really the last of quality built from you guys Tony. TJ11 is massive priced and size for me.

The RV05/FT05 were almost perfection, with a couple glaring design mistakes.

1. They needed to be 1-2" wider, allowing taller CPU heatsinks and more room behind the motherboard for cable routing. This would have also allowed a couple 3.5" hard drives or more SSD's to be mounted behind the motherboard than what is currently mounted there.

2. They needed to be 1-2" taller to allow massive 1000w+ PSU's while still keeping the drive cage. This would also allow more watercooling options possibly compromising the drive cage but there would be extra room elsewhere behind motherboard to mount full 3.5" HDD's.

3. Another possibility versus #2 above would have been to make it 1-2" deeper instead, removing the drive cage, and instead mounting 3.5" drives flat against the front face.

4. I love the idea of the slim dvd drive and removing the 5.25" drive bays. But FFS silverstone, why does it have to be slot-load? Just make a square cutout and allow people to use any of the ubiquitous slim dvd drives out there. Slot load drives are more expensive, and slot load Blu-ray drives are even more expensive and hard to find. The silverstone branded slot load drives are near impossible to find now, and when you do they are typically double the price of other options since it likely isn't manufactured anymore. Just make it a larger rectangular slot that will allow all slim DVD drives. For those people considering this case but need a drive, this potentially increases the cost to build and thus making them seek other possible alternatives.

I can only speak for myself, as an FT02 user with:
1090T / 990FX UD5 / 2GB VaporX 5870 / 750W Bronze modular

And now a FT05 user with:
5820k / X99 SLI-Plus / MSI Lightning 7970 / 750W Gold modular

When I say that FT02 was the case i wanted five years ago, and the FT05 was good enough last year that I saw it as an improvement.

I have an X99 system and run £400 ($550?) GPU's, and no, some bobbins plasstic and steel case is not adequate to my needs.

An extra inch of width to provide more cable room behind the tray would have been good.

I thought I was the only one that wanted another case like the FT02 and didn't like the FT05. I was looking for a new case to replace my old one, I value silence and clean simple design (none of those flashy stereotypical gamer cases). The FT02 fit the bill, sadly it's over 4 years old and I can't find it for sale anywhere in Canada. I share similar frustrations with the FT05, I find it too small, lacks drive bays, unable to fit my PSU without removing the only drive bay in the case. The lack of 5.25 bays is an inconvenience since I do use a bluray burner and finding a slot load bluray burner is near impossible and would be very expensive.

I'm saddened to hear that there won't be a FT06 this year, however I'm glad we're still being acknowledged and there might be one in the future. Seeing how I'm not impressed by any of the cases coming out this year I'm willing to wait. If the FT02 gets a worthy successor I'll definitely be buying one. Hopefully there will be a windowless version too, more quiet the better.

UJ-265. Great blu-ray slot loader. Around $65 on Ebay. It's pretty much the staple drive for NCASE M1 builds and should be perfect in the FT05.

If you live in Ontario shoot me a PM. I recently acquired a used FT02 for nostalgic reasons, but having shifted to small cases the past few years, it's really just too big for my purposes these days.

Silverstone's focus has always been unusual design, and in the past few years they have heavily pushed the SFF/SFX agenda which I appreciate. We've got 450W / 600W gold SFX PSUs and some great itx true SFF cases (SG05, SG13, SG10, RVZ01, even upwards to the TJ08E).

The FT05 is the evolution of this philosophy to shed what is actually considered to most people the "dead weight" of 5.25" drives to make the chassis much smaller overall. The FT05 sits at 46L compared to the 64.9L of the FT02. I can understand why those accustomed to the FT02 would be disappointed, but the FT03 was an ITX case signified a a shift in focus. The RV03 was a true disappointment and when Silverstone tried a traditional case (FT04) it was fairly lackluster.

The FT05 is better than those previous cases by far. With that being said, I do think there was a mistake made with the FT05. The FT05 has a wider total width than the FT02 yet doesn't accommodate the same sized coolers (165mm height for FT02).. at least not officially. The NH-U14S and NH-D15 supposedly fit in the non-window version based on user feedback... I'd say official support is a problem because this case is made for air cooling, and as some have noted, cable management wasn't improved either. If one were to use smaller air coolers or especially an AIO, the NZXT S340 is a more suitable case, and even smaller (36L!)

Edit - having now built in the FT05 and placing it side by side to the NZXT S340, it is obvious the 36L figure does not include the feet. The FT05 and S340 are nearly identical in size (FT05 slightly wider and taller, not by much)

Thanks Vittra, the UJ-265 sounds perfect if I ever need a slot load bluray burner. Would you happen to know if they are compatible and issue free using Verbatim Non-LTH media particularly this media here: http://www.verbatim.com/prod/optical-media/blu-ray/bd-r/bd-r-sku-97457/ ?

Even with the optical drive issue solved, there's still one problem with the FT05. I can't fit my PSU without removing the drive bay underneath and that's a deal breaker for me since there's only one drive bay. My PSU isn't even one those large super high wattage ones, just a Kingwin LZP-650 (Rebranded Super Flower Golden King). I like this PSU too much to replace it, it's completely silent to my ears and the fan never needs spin due it's high efficiency.

I understand that most people no longer use 5.25 bays, I know there are some cases that include them and have the option to convert them into drive bays for SSDs/HDDs. Would of been nice if FT05 had that option.

Thank you Vittra. I've spotted that same player on Amazon under a couple different listings, but was unsure of what people thought about it or if there was something better. Now that I know that its highly lauded in the enthusiast community, it is in my Amazon wishlist.

I'm glad its so cheap too. I was not looking forward to spending almost as much as the FT05 case just for the silverstone slot load blu-ray player.

No problem. Now I may be recalling this incorrectly, but from what I remember Silverstone's SOB02 is actually the UJ-265, but re-branded and with a more aesthetically pleasing cable.

We also include PowerDVD software in our SOB02 plus offering 1 year warranty on the drive with guarantee that the drive is brand new. Some UJ-265 out there maybe sold as-is from system pulls or from refurbished batch.

I'm sorry Tony, but unless it includes PowerDVD 15 it is not worth the price premium. :(
Cyberlink has a very bad habit of sunsetting support for their products too quickly. You almost have to buy it new every year or else you can't play the latest and greatest movies. At this point the best blu-ray solution for PC's is still ripping the disc to the hard drive using free software like MakeMKV.

Leave out PowerDVD, sell it with the warranty and guarantee its brand new, it's worth maybe $100 max. I'm not paying nearly $150 for your drive that includes an outdated piece of software. I can buy 2 bare UJ-265's for the price of one SOB02 in case they break. I know the amazon pic shows PowerDVD9, so the pic may be outdated, but I only see references to Cyberpower PowerDVD 10 which is hopelessly outdated.

Seems to me like an interesting thing to try for the next versions of this case would be to grow the fans a bit and thus the bottom footprint of the case. Should give some improvement to the already great RPM to airflow ratio. The extra space would allow more space behind the MB and maybe taller CPU coolers as well.

You might be able to grow the optical drive to allow standard 5.25" drive with front access for the tray only like some HTPC cases, but still sideways. This might be too big though, would be close for sure.

Extending the height a bit to allow a bit longer PSUs would be good. More room between the MB and the PSU would allow for wide (tall) GPUs in the far slot as well.

Nice to see you guys listening to our feedback.

I prefer my FT05 over my FT02. The FT02 was too big for my tastes. Love the compactness of the FT05.

Long time FT02 user here (still need to get the USB3 header replacement at some point...). I would love to see a newer revision that still feels as uncompromising as the FT02 as far as hardware choices with the 90 degree rotation that I've come to love. The one thing that's made me think of replacing my FT02 is that I am using a Corsair H80i GT in the top 120mm exhaust space, but due to my MSI x99s Krait motherboard having the ram modules so close to the rear IO, I can only do a pull config instead of push/pull as the 2nd fan hits my top ram stick.

Very minor complaint, and really I'd rather put a nice air cooler like a beQuiet DRP3, but silly me got an x99 setup with Dominator Platinum ram which pretty much no decent air cooler will work with.

Otherwise, extra room behind the motherboard tray for more cable management space as well as possibly a modular 3.5" drive cage that's re-positional would be awesome (maybe just replace the 5.25" bays with the hard drive cages and leave a space for a slot-loading optical drive). Lastly, some black PWM air penetrators that match the rest of the case would be awesome as well.

Any news if there will ever be a true successor to the FT02? I have been with the FT02 for over a year now and it's best case I ever used. I would love to see a revision with more space for better cable management and support for different fan sizes like 140mm.

Apparently Silverstone is working on a replacement to the RV05/FT05. No idea when it's going to be released.

It's called the RVX01. It's layout is a revised version of the RV05 taking a few design inspirations from FT02. There are no 5.25" bays, and I don't see a spot for a slim optical drive either like the RV05/FT05.

There's room for 3, 180mm fans at the bottom like the FT02. There's also a side panel where you bolt your SSD's to for more room instead of the retarded behind the motherboard design from the RV05/FT05. No word on release date yet.

The FT02 just need to be ~3" taller internally with more room for cable management.
Those two improvements would have made it a better case, but it's still my second favorite of all time.

I have an IN WIN S-Frame (current favorite) because it continued were the FT02 and TJ11 stopped.
I would still be an Silverstone owner if they didn't abandon the premium buyers.

Make a mATX FT02 in the same design, with two AP182's and I would be all over it.

Measurements:
FT05: 221mm (W) x 483mm (H) x 427mm (D), 46 liters
RVX01: 215mm (W) x 485mm (H) x 500mm (D) , 52.1 liters
FT02: 212mm (W) x 497mm (H) x 616mm (D), 64.9 liters

Like the FT05 the RVX01 is too short, I have a large psu with a 140mm fan and I would of had to remove the drive tray underneath the psu dock to get it to fit into the FT05. Judging from the pictures from the RVX01 link, the side plate is riveted into the frame, there would be no option to remove the bay below to make room to fit a larger psu. I looked at the specifications for the RVX01, it actually uses 3 x 120mm Air Penetrators not 180mm's like FT02 and FT05. I'm not a fan of the plastic gamer look of the Raven series, I prefer the aluminum unibody design of the FT02. Sadly the RVX01 is not a viable option for me.

I would love a new and updated FT02 that has more room for cable management, more room for watercooling support in the bottom and removeable hard drive cages/removeable 5.25" bay.
