Would it be ok to buy a refurbished Powercolor 9800se? Or would that not oc/softmod as well as a non refurb?

Refurb: $118
Non-Refurb: $158

Chances are that someone got the card, realized it didn't softmod, and sent it back as "bad"

Spend $210 for a 9800 Pro, its a steal.

Most of us paid $350 + up for these cards not many months ago.

Go cheap & thats what u have, second rate hardware.

Thanks for the advice. I went for the Powercolor 9800SE 256bit. The reason I didn't go for the 9800Pro is the money. the $158 is already pushing the limits of my budget. I'm hoping it will softmod successfuly to a 9800pro. If not, I'll try to RMA it :), possibly exchange it for a 9800 Pro.

EDIT: If it (softmod) doesn't work, I'll return it and exchange it for a 9800 Pro. I think the extra $50 will be worth it in the long run.

chances are it wont softmod.

and that would not be a legit reason to RMA ...sheesh almost seems worse than trying to RMA something you broke. Don't scam ATi, then the rest of us will be paying higher prices.

Its worth a try, if not, I'll return it for a 9800Pro :). Your right, RMA on a good product probably is a bad idea.
