Is PLP still a bad option?

I last looked seriously into a portrait-landscape-portrait setup maybe a year ago. At the time it seemed bad because it's not supported by AMD or nVidia cards and required some sort of work around for it to work with most games.

Is this still the case? Or are P-L-P setups more viable now?

I was wondering this a few weeks ago myself. I'm surprised it hasn't gone mainstream somehow, but I guess it's really not feasible economically for most people.

It always have been a bad option if one wants monitors with good image quality. Either one chooses from grainy (CCFL back-lit) 30" with wide gamut colors (inaccurate and over-saturated in games) and poor black levels or the LED back-lit 30" with really obvious overshoot ghosting (Crossover 30X, Dell 3014 & Lenovo LT3053P) or wide gamut colors (HP Z30i) and poor black levels. The more pronounced IPS glow kills the blacks when viewed from <3ft away and the 1600x1200 IPS 20" all use grainy matte coatings and are standard gamut so the colors won't match the 30" monitors which lack sRGB modes.

MHM, yes it's still the case where you need SoftTH in which limits you to DirectX9. Although, development has started on DX10 and DX11 support, so yeah. Just go buy 3x30"rs. The extra resolution is useful in games and work. :p
