RAM for an outdated but free dell inspiron 1100

It's been proven(outside source) that 1GB 1STICK RAM works on the intel chipset. Of course two 512MB totaling 1GB from 2STICKS RAM works.

Is one more beneficial then the other?

on a second note...........

Also in the same thread...... he tried upping the RAM beyond dells recommended Capability. Adding one 128MB stick in addition to a 1GB stick ram. It worked. Also while researching Intel support informed that on their model chipset it supports up to 2GB ram. However dell support(sucky by comparison) says 1GB
Opinions??

Is using two sticks of 512MB more beneficial than using one stick of 1GB? Technically, as long as it's DDR memory (and motherboard), the answer is "yes". But it's very doubtful that the difference will be noticeable, especially if your expectations from the system are low to begin with.
