Of all the 3 current systems, Game cube is the least appealing. For the next gen systems, Revolutions seem to me the least appealing. Can this be the last console nintendo gonna come out with?
Are they only surviving on gameboy sales?

Who knows when/if they will go under. But they are still making a big mistake by focusing mainly on kiddie games IMO. That's why the ps1 became popular, because of the adult games.

Hey, I've been wanting to ask this question for a long time: what makes a game an ADULT game?

A game that a 6 year old can't pick up the controller and beat a game, and also isn't full of crayola-colors...but rather realistic colors. :p

E3 has only OFFICIALLY begun and Nintendo was the least apealing? Hold out until it is over. If Rev really has a weak showing, then all good, but there hasn't really been much news so far across the board. So far we have MS/Sony specs some demos and a small line-up. How is the rest of the expo to compete with this? I don't think Nintendo wants to overshadow their more immediate projects too quickly. If you ask me, by holding their release until later, whether it's a few days or even months, may be the smartest thing to do. Let people go ape shit over 360 and PS3. Neither will be out for at least 6 months. They'll burn themselves out, be impatient to get their new consoles, forget all about current gen, and when they're most bummed. "Hey, remember revolution? This is what it's all about." MS and Sony could have just as well setup Nintendo for one of the greatest press releases they could make this E3. Imagine how UNimpressed everyone will be with all of the current gen tech being displayed? "Bah... Xbox game demo... Bah... PS2 game demo... I want to play Heavenly Sword... where is DOA 4". When everyone is most uninterested, MORE NEXT-GEN NEWS!!

All speculation of course, but I'll wait until after E3 decide who had a weak showing. :p

Honestly though, what people see as their crutch others see as their saving grace. Nintendo undoubtedly has the greatest character franchise...Mario, Link, Donkey Kong, Metroid, and all of their combinations. Nintendo's lineup is simply priceless. They'll be around forever in the console market. Especially considering the revolution will allow you to play "classic" titles via download. Sega only had Shinobi and Sonic. Yea nintendo has been coming in last for a while now, but if they're still making money who cares. I could swear people were having this converstion when the GC came out...."Oh dude, nintendo is done after PS2 and XBOX are around for a while....there's no way to compete." And let's not forget that first gen releases of all games will look best on the rev...nintendo always has that going for it.

i think you guys are forgetting that even though nintendo doesn't seem to have a big impact here, its almost anything and everything overseas and around the world. from its gamecube to the ds, they are all extremely big hits in other places other than the u.s.

Why are you so ready to write-off Nintendo?

The original Gameboy platform was the greatest selling gaming product ever. The Advance/DS still has a -major- price advantage over the PSP & they're moving plenty of units.

That price point helps because a large part of the market aren't 'hardcore' gamers but kids who rely on their parents to make their gaming purchases for them. The 'kiddy games' help them in this market immensly.

Likewise, I'm expecting their next console to be on the level, performance-wise, with the Xbox 360 and PS3 - Nintendo's not known for trying to build up hype by building up unreasonable expectations of their systems unlike MSFT and Sony, who are notorious for overhyping products. Remember how the PS2 was a 'supercomputer'? On top of that, reports are coming out that the prices on the PS3 are going to be approaching $500 - if Nintendo can make a $300 box, that'll open up large segments of the market to them.

Any attempt to say that Nintendo's going down the tubes has a really narrowminded view of business - you don't need to be #1 to keep making money.

Sega made too many mistakes in a short period of time and alienated their customers. That said, I had more fun with my DC than my Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube combined. Nintendo is playing it safe with their home consoles and is really only taking minor risks in the handheld market, which they dominate. They still have a loyal fan base, so what if they make games that appeal to kids. Would you rather a 5 year old play Mario or GTA? I like the oldschool style games Nintendo makes and will most likely buy a PS3 and a Revolation as a secondary console if they have a solid line up of 1st party games.

You are counting them out when they haven't even showed the "revolutionary" concept of their console yet?!

True... right now, people including myself, are getting hyped up with Ms and sony... even if nintendo has something revolutionary, would anyone care or notice because of all the Ms/Sony hype?

The only "revolutionary" feature that would silence the naysayers would be a wet-dripping fuck-hole, for kids of course.

IMO if the self proclaimed innovation king nintendo just came out with a conservative console and cotnroller with no gimmicks and steal back 3rd party support they would be #1...but that's not gunna happen because they like to shoot themselves in the foot, with their lousy marketing...the cube still looks like a toy with a lunchbox handle and fisher price controller...even that sound effect u hear when u fire up a gc game sounds kiddy. lets not forget the cartridge, funky controllers, mini dvd in their efforts to be different....seems like they wanna be different once more, hopefully it won't backfire on them. even the name revolution sounds like they are trying too hard. i just hope they don't come up with a funky controller just to cater to their games they rarely release

Oh the profanity... you sir are NOT A nintendo Fan with that language...

btw, just so you know...
Nintendo OWNS portable gaming, as they have for the past 16 years. Market share is like 94% or higher. They will NEVER lose it. If there is one thing Nintendo does right, its portable gaming.

Also, sales data for last week show the DS as the highest selling system right now, yes supassing PS2 sales. The PSP isnt even making a dent. (Remember the TurboExpress? Thats what the PSP is going to be. too expensive, very highend, but wont penetrate enough market share, and MAY or MAY not die in less than 5 years.)

1. 66,000 DS
2. 22,000 PS2
3. skip, skip,
5. 2,000 PSP
6. skip
7. 146 Xbox

the skip means irrelevent consoles, so i didnt post their data. (GBA,GC,PSone)

So, in other words, Nintendo can afford to fail one console. (Not that thats smart or anything...) They would just switch their focus to portable gaming for that peroid of time. But looking on the brightside, they would be first out the gate for the generation after that.

So yeah, Nintendo will NEVER, I repeat, NEVER go belly up. (They have enough experiance, dont forget that Nintendo is an over 100 year old company.)

This is how nintedo is gonna change the gaming world and cater to adults..

XXX games and cussin..
Super "pimp" mario 6...
Wario make a porno games
Donkey Kong cuss beat - how many cuss words can you rhyme to the beat.
MetroidPrime gone wild.. samus flashing titties.

this seems to be what the soo called Adult are about.

no, they've been around since 1895.

A card playing company, no less. Dont ever count them out, Im sure they know how to gamble a little.

That's why they are waiting to do so.

I don't know about that, but Nintendo has been in the interactive entertainment business for many years before video games, making card and board games. Think of what would happen should Parker Brothers realize video games are really just like board games.

In Europe and Asia, Nintendo is beating Xbox (and almost PS2) in sales.

In America, they arnt doing that great

(America isnt the ONLY country you know  )

Nintendo also has always been the cheaper system to buy. Good games and cheap = Staying alive...staying alive...ah ah ah ah staying alive (couldn't resist)

Makes buying games for kids much easier too
I love nintendo and love my gamecube as much as my PS2

oh my bad, its actually 1889.
so that makes them, 116 years old?

yeah, they used to make Hanafunda cards. (playing cards, gambling cards)

yeah i'm sure that's what sony or whoever had in mind for their secret weapon to crush nintendo

hey bench, so what?

my point is they are a very powerful company that has been in the game TOO long to ever fade. If they fuck up once, they can bounce back.

A little Nintendo history for you guys....

1959 Nintendo produces playing cards featuring Disney's characters. With the aid of successful TV ads and a good distribution system through many big toy and department stores around Japan these cards sold in no less than 600.000 packs that same year. (by this time Nintendo has been the #1 card company in Japan for over 35 years.)

1962 Nintendo lists stock at the Osaka and the Kyoto Stock Exchange

1963 Name change to Nintendo Co. Ltd(as is today) and starts to produce various products. (I.E. their first steps into video game technology.)

you know the rest...

btw Hiroshi Yamauchi (the president that just retired) took over the company in 1949 and was the president since that time till now! (He is the genius that brought such glory to the name Nintendo.)

heres hoping Iwata doesnt fuck up the company...

Even better, Nintendo is PROFITABLE. Go figure.

I love my GameCube just like everyone else said (kiddie games aside, in terms of great epic grown-up games, Metroid Prime and RE4 are the best games of the freakin' generation, and MGS: The Twin Snakes was a paradise game for me personally) and I've played my GBASP more than any system I've ever owned.

If that XXX argument were true, Sega CD would have been successful. Does anyone remember that crazy game that was banned in the US? I forget the name but it was a decision based game, like if you decide to go to the movies...bad guys would come and rape your housemates..Night something. I have that in the archives back home. Need to find it, i'm sure its very valuable.

well i dont know much about nintendo, but my fan boy friend does...and from what i hear whoever the new guy is can't be as bad as the old fart that died...heard it was his idea for the 64 cartridge and all sorts of crap that held them back

LOL i forgot the name..i dont think rape was in the game though

Night Trap.
they also made a 32X CD version, which is 1.edited, and 2. the video size is doubled.

ahhhh the 32x, it had some great games like this starwars shooter..i forget and a sega racing game they had....i remember it was the shit when it came out...it was suppose to carry u over to the next gen which was only a few months away, as well as carry 150$ from ur pockets

You mean to tell me that the Sega3 console I bought off some sketchy street dude isn't legit? SEGA LIVES ON!!!

(All the kiddie shit aside, I'm more interested and curious about Revolution than PS3 or XBox360. The fact that they aren't basing the system on specs is intriguing enough. I wrote off the game cube to my ps2, but they might be getting me back. Let's be honest, isn't the specs of shit getting old? It's not suprising or exciting to see a powerful machine these days, because it's just going to be totally obsolete the day it comes out. A good idea is never obsolete. Lets have something new.)

I've always thought that best thing for them to do would be to pull a Sega and become a software developer.
