Just wondering if my videocard was weaker than the rest of my system?

AMD Athlon 2400+
ECS Elitegroup K7S5A Motherboard
768 MB DDR PC2100 ram
GeForce4 Ti 4200 from Best Data
Creative Soundblaster Live! 5.1 LS

Thanks for the help, as I am looking for few good upgrades.

soundblaster live is bottleneck, then the weak lil proc. then the vid card lol

no, your grakka is right up there with your system.

Your ram is pretty bad.

IMO, not to be too blunt: Sell the whole thing off get what you can for it and start over again.

A total system upgrade is required. You can make do with a video card upgrade but you're pretty much CPU and memory bandwith limited after that. I would advise a total system upgrade. Or you can wait for PCI Express motherboards.

well soundbastard live can not slow your system down. it is hardly doing anything. just using a little pci bandwith to play sounds.

the vid card is quite well matched with your CPU, i would not bother upgrading it untill as everyone says you just go for a whole new system. or if you have good case/psu/drives then upgrade motherboard/cpu/ram/vid card.

your video card is most definately your bottleneck, the processor isn't bad since most games depend more on your video card than your processor

I'd say o/c that 2400 to 3200 speeds and get a better HSF. O/c that ti4200 to 4400 speeds, it will help out, but that video card is definitly a bottleneck. A 9700/9800 pro would fit in nicely.Your ram is fine. Those 2400+'s are unlocked so you should get some good speed without having to touch the ram.

On second thought, that's an ECS motherboard.. Probably doesn't overclock very well. Hmm..
If you want to eek more performance out of it without spending a to of cash you could just get a new board, NF7-S or DFI whatever the fack and o/c. Get a 9800 pro or something and you'd have a pretty decent gaming rig again.

Yeah I guess I will get a DFI Ultra Infinity mobo coupled with an Athlon (Barton) 3200 XP, a 9800 pro, and 512mb of pc3100 dd400 ram. Sound good? Case is a lian-li, which I love, and I have a seagate hd, but it only has a 2mb buffer. Seek time is 9.1... This system won't bottleneck itself will it?

wouldnt u rather just get the ram. mobo, and overclock ur 2400+ to near or 3200+ speeds and spend the money intended on the new 3200+ on a new videocard? just a suggestion :D

If you get a 6800 Gt it will unclogg everything because they are that great.

best idea yet ^^

If no one else will answer I will. Your system is fine. Don't let these money hungry [H] boys tell you any different. Bottleneck? Nah.

i say wait i bit more the PCI-e A64 boards will be out soon :D

Actually, I have a similar system.

AMD Athlon 2400+
ECS Elite K7S5A v2 motherboard
1 gig PC2700 ram
ATi 9800 Pro 128 Graphics card
Soundblaster Live! Gamer-X.

The athlon 2400+ (266 fsb) does overclock if you use the modified bios upgrade. It's just limited and probably not worth the risk. I do not oc this. Results will vary, but you might be able to get up to 2.4 with stock cooling.

At 2.0 ghz, it runs everything, and runs it fairly well. When I *do* upgrade, it will be cpu, mobo, memory. Tomorrow AMD cpu prices are dropping, so if I were you, I'd keep an eye out!
