Is my system running too hot?

As the title asks...

The room temperature is 20-24C
I'm using stock fans in the Antec P180 cabinet, as well as stock Intel heatsink/fan on the CPU.

Before I overclocked the CPU by 40%, I belive it ran ~10C cooler on idle and load. Now it idles at ~50C and goes to 60C and up during load.

The 8800GTS idles at 61C, and goes to ~70C with somewhat heavy games (STALKER etc.)

I'm somewhat worried about the HDs hitting 35C and more without defragging/copying, just pretty much idling.

edit: the 3 stock fans in the P180 cabinet are all set to medium speed.

System specs:
Asus P5B-E PLUS | Intel C2D E6400 @ 3,008GHz 1,3000V | Corsair TWIN2X 6400 DDR2 2x1024MB @ 940MHz, 5-5-5-12 | XFX GeForce 8800GTS 640MB @ stock | Antec P180 | Fortron/Source Epsilon 600W | Samsung SH-S183A - DVD±RW (±R DL) SATA | Seagate 320GB 16MB 7200 SATA | Seagate 200GB 8MB 7200 SATA | Dell 2407FWP 24" LCD | Logitech MX510 | Win XP 64

Your idle temp is actually very high indeed. Using coretemp to monitor it should be about 15-20c lower! I suggest reading this thread. The testing I and a few others have done suggest that the tjunction value isn't really 85 like coretemp assumes but actually 100c, so in other words your idle temp is actually 66c which suggests that the heatsink isn't getting contact properly with the cpu. Your gpu and hdd temps are fine.

Core Temp 0.95, Core Temp 0.94, Speed Fan, Asus PC probe and the bios hardware monitor show the same numbers. How hot should my CPU be running idle/max?
I thought the Intel heatsink/fan locked into place nice and properly (with Artic Silver), but...

edit: i actually read your post earlier, but unlike you I'm getting identical results with core temp 0.94 and 0.95

Yep, but that is just because the writer of coretemp uses a tjunction of 100 for e4300 with 0.95 but 85 for e6x00 series. That doesn't mean he knows what the tjunction values actually are. You are running with a low voltage so it doesn't heat up too bad at load, but I still think something is off because the idle temps are so high. 60c load isn't dangerous or anything but considering your low voltage it seems a quite high too. But if you aren't going to overclock more and everything is stable then there isn't really a reason to worry about.

Coretemp 0.95 report Tjunction of 100 for E4300 which seems to be correct

Seems like for your C2D both report 85 so temps are equal between both versions, but that doesn't mean 85 is correct.

I would say Idle temps should be ~40ºC max load 60ºC

If you wanna know what would be the temps considering a Tjunction of 100, add 15ºC to your readings

I opened up the case... It wasn't something silly like a fan not spinning, and as far as I can tell the heatsink is properly mounted. I sure can't shake it at least.

It's messy, but the airflow doesn't seem to be that hindered. I tried to put excess cabling in the unused optic drive bays.
Not that the temperatures changed, they're still the same.

BTW, should I re-enable C1E in the bios? A overclocking guide for the E6400 I used said to disable it.

I don't think the problem is the airflow. I think it is the contact. You could try taking the heatsink off, cleaning all the previous crap off and applying as5 and mounting it on again. It could work miracles you never know. BTW are the temps any lower with case open?

After one attempt, 75C... Dunno what the hell happened then, it seemed to be mounted as it should.
Somehow a better attempt now, and it's at 48C with the cabinet closed, 3008MHZ with 1.275vcore... The only reason it dropped ~4C was the small vcore drop & me enabling C1E though.

edit: Orthos error after 55s, guess I found the lowest vcore...
