I just got a 74gb ADFD Raptor from WD as an RMA for my old raptor I sent, and ever since I got it I've been having random problems.
I installed the raptor along with my 320 GB SATA Seagate, my power supply is 580w
I have been runing previously on a 120 gb IDE Seagate with 0 problems, now these happen after my SATA installations:
1) My PC will completely freeze at random (sometimes 10 min, sometimes 10 hours) and when attempting to reboot it will get to the screen where I can choose to pres DEL or TAB to acces bios functions and it never gets beyond that. Once I completely cut the power to the PC and let it stand for 30 sec, everything will start booting again.
2) My windows OS will not boot unless I set my bios to boot off the CD Rom, and then ignore it till it decides to boot from the HD on its own. If set to boot of floppy then HD or HD first it says DISK NOT DETECTED or the such, in both situations, but it works perfectly fine via the CD Rom-and-wait method.
3) During OS installation i'm unable to do a full HD format on the Raptor, only quick-format, otherwise it freezes.
4) My PC seems to only be rebootable now when I cut the power and leave it off for 30 sec and then back on... note: it runs perfectly after that for either 10 min or 10 hours with no issue and no settings have been changed since it ran 100% fine on my 120GB IDE Seagate.
5) the WD Disk Diagnostic Tools cannot complete a diagnostic run on the HD and give the error 0134.
6) I'm currently runing off my IDE Seagate with my old OS which I never erased (let this be a lesson to everyone) and everything is 100% stable, and i'm using thw indows format option for the Raptor, so far its past 50% without a hitch.
Could this possibly be an electrical problem or something other than the HD?... because my monitor does stay on after a crash and it is just stuck at that first screen (and yes, an OS detection beep does happen). Could this have anything to do with the weird CD Rom boot error?
