I have an optical wire Microsoft Intelli Explorer 4.0a mouse and over the past week its been acting strange...

Today the red light on my mouse was flickering on and off and then went completly out. i pulled out the ps2 plug and put it back in, it was on again until 2 mins later when it went out again. I pulled out the ps2 mouse and my usb keyboard and just put the mouse in... no power at all. So i put the usb keyboard in and the mouse came back on. Everything i pulled the keyboard out, the mouse lost power and everytime i plugged the keyboard back in, the mouses red light came back on.

The mouse is fine again apart from 10 mins ago where the red light was flickering, the mouse didnt respond for a whole 20 seconds.

Also sometimes when i click a link, or click to type in a box, or even to click an icon, sometimes the mouse button doesnt work. I have to click it 2 or 3 times before i opens.

is my mouse dying? its only 3 month old....
 
Have you tried plugging in the mouse without the ps2 adaptor and just straight into a usb port? That might work, since it seems like the keyboard is conflicting with the mouse somehow. Also, make sure there are no previous mouse drivers installed. It doesn't really sound like a driver problem, but it's worth a try.

It's also definately possible that it's going bad. I've had a Microsoft optical mouse that displayed the same exact problems, although it was the intellimouse 1.0 version.

Go here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;326246 and under "To order a replacement for supplemental item" you should find a phone number and call time. Call them and explain your situation, they should give you instructions on how to fax in some basic info such as address, phone number, and a scan of the bottom of the mouse. They will send you a free replacement, you don't even have to send the old mouse in or have a reciept.

I did this for my old intellimouse (plus a few other times) and it's always worked for me. Microsoft mice IMO seem to have a tendency to break down after a year or so. Good luck.
 
sorry i got that mixed up, its the mouse thats usb and the keyboard ps2.

Yeah thats what i did before, i had an intelli explorer 3 and rang them up, they sent me this one i have now a few months ago. I'll contact them again if the problem isnt solved.
