Ive been using for the past year a Mircosoft Intelli Explorer 3.0 opitical WIRE USB mouse and I use it for gaming, I love it to bits. My mouse

Today my PSU died, i think it overheated, anyway after replacing it everything was fine but now my mouse is acting up.....

Was playing UT2004 and suddenly i heard that little noise when a USB device is plugged into a port that der der sound. Then my mouse stopped working, the red opitical light went out and a little bubble came up saying a USB device has malfunctioned.

When I unplug the USB mouse and plug it back on it works for a little while (sometimes a minute, sometimes 10 minutes) but then it will go off again. Sometimes when i pull it out and plug it in, it doesnt come up at all.

There is a small cut in the wire, by the way. So whats the deal? is my mouse dying? I am forced to use my backup Mircosoft Intelli Optical standard USB mouse and it feels like im moving a brick but it doesnt stop working and its plugged into the same USB port as my other mouse.

sounds to me like your mouse is in fact dying :(

i guess you will either have to invest in a new one, or try to use microsofts warantee, and RMA that one.

i think microsoft used to have a lifetime warantee on all their mice where you just take apicture of the bottom of the mouse and they send you a new one no questions asked kind of deal. i remember getting some brand new 2 button ps2 mice from them because i had a bunch of old ones laying around in my closet for years.

give MS a call and see what they can do for you

it's either your mouse (more likely) or something could be wrong with that port. Try any different USB ports with it?

But yea, I would agree that the mouse is FUBARed

I had bought the Intellimouse Explorer when it first came out. That one crapped out and MS sent me a new one, no questions asked. I have the 3.0 now but I'm not surprised that yours died too. Mine died due to a cable problem as well.

I wouldnt rule out the possibility of it being your usb port as well. Do you have another usb mouse to try?

Yes I have a Mircosoft Intelli Opitical mouse for backup, its no good for gaming but it works and thats USB.... doesnt go off at all so far.

I can contact microsoft.... shall i ring their UK number and say my mouse is broken? I got this mouse off my m8 2nd hand, but it was only 1 month used.
What shall i say on the phone? or would it be best to email them?

Just rang Microsoft, they are going to send me a new mouse thats the same.

Whether they will send me the 3.0 one I have now or the new 4.0a im not sure.. I hope its the new 4.0 one hehe

definately call them, in most respects, big tech companies aren't as good about resopnding to Email help cries as they are when they actually have to talk to you about it...
