Is my mouse dying?

I've had this Intellimouse Optical for probably going on 4 years now and it's been pretty solid the whole time. Tonight in the middle of playing City of Heroes it stops working. Uninstalling and reinstalling works, but only for a few seconds to a couple of minutes. I've tried every USB port on the machine with the same results. Even uninstalling/reinstalling sometimes results in the mouse being recognized as "unknown hardware." I have a USB keyboard that is working just fine.

Time for a trip to the store? If so, any recommendations on what the replacement should be (I would prefer wired over wireless)?

TIA, glad to see the [H] back!

If you plan on getting a new mouse, I highly recommend the Logitech MX700 or MX500. MX700 is wireless and optical, and the MX500 is optical. Think the MX700 is like $60 and 500 is around 40? I've had the 700 for 1.5 years now, and batteries have never gone low, and the pointer is so precise even though I have dropped it like a dozen times :p

or if you are a serios gamer u can get the MX510... increased accuracy (if you really think the MX series needs it) and get a bigger e-penos!

i agree with fallsincluded, ms will replace it for free. No need to send it in or anything, they take the serial number over the phone and send you a new one. Not sure about the phone number though.
