Is my loop leaking?

I know, it sounds like I should know the answer, but hear me out...

Basically, since I filled my loop about 3 1/2 months ago, the water level in my AC res has lowered about 5mm, noticable because it's now at the middle of the water jet. But there are no observable leaks, never any drops of water and no component failures.

Could it be leaking so slowly that the water is evaporating before it does any harm?

P.S. it's a closed loop - I'm not that dumb :p
 
If you have some UV dye you could add some and then check with a UV light around your connections. You could lose some fluid through the tubing , but I don't think that would account for that great of a loss. In my Exos I lose a bit of fluid over 6 months or so and add a bit back in to the system ocassionally. I have never found any leaks through the above method so grin and fill. :D Sounds like you need a Tubemeter. ;)
 
Tubing can sweat a little bit over time. If you can't find a leak then if there is one it's not worth bothering with.

Permeation is why automotive cooling systems need to be topped off over time. They usually have an overflow bottle/tank to monitor with min and max fill lines. Likewise, permeation is why you need to top off the fluid in your system every now and then. "
 
since its only been about 3.5 months, I would probably bet you had some air bubbles trapped in there and the water filled it up, sometimes its take a bit of shaking to get them all out. That MIGHT be why you see a lower level in your res. In 3.5 months you shouldn't see a drastic change in the res from the tubes breathing. it takes much longer than that, at least in my climate. It might also depend on where you live and how warm the room is that the computer is in.

TN had a good idea with the UV dye, I'd try that if you were really concerned it was leaking
