it seems it does not power on with the rest of the system, i have to reset the computer several times for bios to detect it, i switched the ide cable and changed the power lead but the problem is still happening. the cdrw on the second channel works fine.

btw the hdd is a WD 120GB 8mb

i have until 1/31 to exchange it at bestbuy

well, are you using it with the cable it came with?
Have you run the Diagnostic on it?
Have you tried it as a Single on its own channel?

yes
no, how do i do this
that is what it is setup as

i think it is the power, it seems it takes the hard drive longer to spin up then the pc to post

power supply is an antec tru 430 and mobo is an asus P4

WD Data Lifeguard download, extract to a floppy and run

That Antec should be plenty of power if its functioning correctly
you have another PSU to try?
