Last night I was dusting my computer, made sure to unplug everthing and put it in a safe place, I did a lil bit of wire clean up but didnt remove any molex connectors. I finished dusting and put everthing back, but when I turned on the computer, the HD didnt come on, didnt make any sounds or anything. I un-pluged it and pluged it back in and tryed it agian - same. I tryed it on my old computer and it still didnt work. I tested the power supply with a 60 gig HD and it did not boot, it didnt do anything. When i put the 60 back in to my other computer it was doing the same as the 120 gig, woulnt start up. I went to bed kinda fustrated and when I got up I tryed the 60 gig, it came back to life and I am on it now. But when I tryed the 120 gig, it did nothing, so im starting to think its dead, but why would the 60 gig come on and not the 120? any ideas? its a WD 120 gig and the rest of info in my sig - thanks for any ideas/help
 
have you tried just pluggin the just the power in, no ide cable..

see if the drive spins up that way.

Try another molex... I had this happen. I thought my dvd-burner failed until I got to looking, one of the pins inside the connector popped out enough to not make contact,
 
Check the voltages on the molex connectors. May be gettings incorrect voltage, if so replace power supply.

Did try another molex but same thing, even tryed a nother psu

Yeah I will test the connectores. I am thinking this psu is starting to die anyways ;\

hmmmm... after looking back through the thread a bit... i think i found your problem.

bad psu... it let out an emp when it died, frying your 120gig'er. but there was still enough energy left in the thing to make a second emp that p*ssed off the 60gig'er for a few hours but did no permanent brain scrambling to it.

hmm yeah allright, im just gonna buy a new PSU anyways, thanks guys
