Is my hard drive dying?

A few hours ago when I encountered a 'Disc Read Error' when I tried to start my computer. After a few tries I was able to load Windows though it took some time.

HD Tune has the Health Status as 'Ok' but two of the sections were in yellow. There were also no errors when I ran Error Scan.

Initially Short DST on Seagate Seatools failed while Short Generic passed. But I just tried Short DST again and it now passed and I'm soon going to run Long DST.

I've already started to back up some of my files. Should I consider changing hard drives immediately or is there any way to fix this (if it even is a problem)?

Run, don't walk to get a new HD and transfer all the data ASAP! ***DO NOT*** stress this drive further by running any tests/diagnostics, etc. The reallocated sector count tells you all there is to it -- this drive is on life support. If you can plug in a new drive into the motherboard without turning off the system, do that -- keep the old drive is spinning to reduce the probability of another start-up spinup failure.

Long DST also passed and after reading the above post I decided to leave the computer running for now and will back up more stuff later today.

I do have a new hard drive (a WD 1TB Green which I hope is good) so I can replace this one and reinstall everything on that. Can my current hard drive even be used as either an external or as a second internal drive or is it not worth taking a chance on that?

Time ditch the mator, sorry not my favorate, buffer may be going out.Backup while you can

Dude, you got a Seagate. Get a new drive before it spontaneously com-busts!

They definitely are not that bad. I have >50 7200.10s or 7200.11s in my department spinning 24/7/365. We have had to replace 3 of them in since 2008. Although this is a higher rate than the typical 1 to 5% per year failure rate of all my drives combined.

About my replacement hard drive, is the WD10EADS good as the primary drive running XP?
