I've been using the Hercules GTXP for about 5+ years now. It is a great card; 7.1, great sound, usb hub built in, optical, rca, mini-jack outputs...you name it.

But would i benifit from better audio quality with a newer soundcard? I'm running the Klipsch 5.1 system, so a quality soundcard is necessary.

I also would like to have a break-out box if possible, and the only model that i know of is one of the highend Creative sound cards. So what should i get?
 
www.headfi.org is an audiophile site with lots of information. Specifically, see the computers-as-source forum for info on their favorite soundcards.

The creative soundcards are held as being the best for gaming, but mediocre at best for sound quality. Nobody knows for sure if the newest X-fi card is going to live up to the hype. Which soundcard you'll want will vary a bit depending on what you'll be needing from it.
 
Most people won't know what the GTXP sounds like but it is about on level with the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz which is more popular and should probably be used for a point of reference.
 
I still use my GTXP... love it in my HTPC... Even tho the USB is 1.1, its still awesome. Your choice, but I'd stick with it.

Still, it really depends on what features you want. Better support for gaming... music... movies... what?
 
Sorry, forgot to mention that i play games and listen to music. Also, i like for it to sound good for movies too...i guess all around use.
