Rig in sig. C2D E6420 @ 3.22Ghz.

I want to get a Geforce GTX 260 216. I game Crysis at 1280x1024, and want to aim at least for 2xAA 16xAF all settings at High. Currently I absolutely cannot do that with my 8800GTS 320MB.

Is my CPU going to pose itself as a limiting factor at all? I'm aiming for about 40FPS average with these settings.

Thanks.

40fps minimum isn't possible, but you will have smooth framerates sod on't worry about the fps. Your cpu is not limiting you....and even if it were it would only by about 1fps

There's been discussion that Crysis will alter gameplay depending on CPU power available, not measurable by FPS. (why does everyone reduce every discussion to FPS? 1GB VRAM, EAX, etc...etc... If it doesn't affect FPS it can't be worth talking about, right? Branch out, people!)

It would seem that Crysis will reduce enemy AI and the like to reduce CPU requirements. It doesn't tell you it's doing this, but if your CPU is underpowered you'll get a worse gaming experience.

That being said, it played fine on my stock clocked E6400.

Sorry, I should have said AVERAGE. OP edited to reflect this. I've seen some instances where some people have gotten about 40FPS average, but with insanely high resolutions with no AA or AF, so, since I game at only 1280x1024, I was thinking it would be possible.

At least it's nice to know that the CPU won't be the limiting factor. As a matter of fact, if I recall properly, you get CPU limited at about 1024x768.

40fps Average should be plenty doable. You can probably up the resolution and get that too.
