Well im running nvidia surround (5760x1080) with a i7 3930k @ 4.4ghz 1.35v and three 4gb 680 gtxs.
Now while playing bf3 the game runs smooth for the most part.

here are my settings

and this is how the game plays

but randomly, its usually towards the end of games, i get random cpu spikes that cause my fps to drop to the 40s. it seems only happens in certain areas of the map. like if i walk a bit away from an area it will stop.

What are your frames with the settings maxed?

How are other games?

other games run fine, i get fps drops in crysis 3 but i guess thats normal

this happens no matter what settings i use
i can run the game on high fine but when these spikes happen the fps drops even lower say high 30s.

i specifically talking about the cpu spikes in the last pic
it always happens in the same spots of the map like on kharg if always happens just north of capture point d.

on golf of oman it happens just outside of g.

Could be a bug with the game? U saying its the same part of the map its a thing to think... Also its Impossible to say that CPU are bottlenecking your system, the way to know if you are bottlenecked by CPU is if the cards runs all the way at 99-100% and your game its laggy with high fps drop with a card that suppose to run the game smoth... Your system its too powerfull for that game so you have not be concerned about a bottleneck...

yah, i figured a 3930k wouldnt bottleneck me. im thinking its just an issue with the game but the cpu spikes makes it look like a bottleneck.

i will try turning ht off but i like it on for other programs i use.

I would have a guess and say if you look at your HDD light while this is happening it is going nuts, possibly paging or the game is loading textures, something along those lines.

turn HT off and/or core parking

turning ht off helped a bit, but these cpu spikes still occur

if its MP you talking about then your thread is pointless.

yes this is about mp, why do you say that?

Is cpu utilization maxed out while gpu's are not?

cpu utilization stays consistently in the 60s, going to do more testing watching my cpu usage when these spikes occur though.

if the hdd was the case would a ssd drive help? or do ssd drives only make in difference in load times?

SSD make the noticeable difference on load times, and in games that are not prerendered just like GTAIV , far cry 3, prototype, that kind of openworld maps and with games witth extremely heavy textures like Metro 2033 or Crysis 1,2,3... In most of games u only will notice from a couple to 5 - 8 FPS on games installed on SSD.
