Ok, i got a 9800 pro... i had it in my old machine (sig), worked fine. That comp died, tried to stick it in my a7n8x mobo/athlon 2600 machine, and it wouldnt post anything to the monitor (stays in power save mode)... Power is good, PSU is good... Is my card dead? I cant check this anywhere else since my other machine is dead...


Also, i have slapped a VGA silencer on it, am i still able to RMA it by any chance if i stick stock fan back on? Thanks
 
If you put the stock shit back on, and they can't tell that you modified the cooling system when you send it back to them, and you weren't overclocking it, or at least put it back at default clock, yeah you might be able to RMA it.

Kinda depends on what failed though for your comp to die. if it was a power surge, then you're fucked on the video card.

BUT........we aren't sure that it is dead yet. what exactly is you computer doing when you turn it on?

By adding the VGA silencer, you have voided warranty on the card. You can try to RMA it if you've kept the original, non-damaged pushpins (if it had them) and original heatsink but chances are it'll come right back to ya.

And does the PC actually power on? Does it beep, indicating an error or not even?

PC powers on completely like normal except for the fact that the monitor to which the card is connected STAYS in power save mode, never moves from that "status", even if i start from the off position on the monitor, it still does the same. ( i have tried TWO monitors on this card, both do the same thing )
