Is my BFG breaking down?

Guys i am very worried here. I bought a BFG 6600GT AGP just 1 and a half months ago. Well yesterday after starting PC fresh i started playing americasarmy, but as soon as i got into server i was experincing FPS at 3 fps when i would usually get 40 fps at least. So i went into a few other servers and i was still experiencing slowdowns, also i was spotting yellow markings occuring whenever i moved they were quite frequent. I think they were artifacts.
So to see how bad this problem was I started CSS and it was running fine, so i restarted again and played Americas Army, and guess what, the yellow glitches came back and i was getting low fps. Baring in mind last week i was running Americas Army smooth at an average of 50 fps.
Another note, after 10 mins of playing CSS i checked my GPU and it read exactly 72 degrees, is this normal?! ive never seen it this high, its usually at an average of 68 degrees after intensive gameplay.
I hope this is not the first signs of Graphics card failure?!?!

Try another set of drivers and if the same thing happens be glad you bought a BFG.

Its probably a sign that Spring is coming and the ambient temp is increasing

It does sound like the card is going bad though but try a different set of drivers.

the thing is, they were working perfectly until last nite, and today same thing happened
but i shall try out your advice

Make sure the gpu is in 100% contact with the cooler. Reseat it if necessary. TRy driver cleaner and try different drivers maybe?

i thought high temps were normal for 6600gts

Are all of your fans still running? While your checking that, clean those bunnies out. A good dusting never hurts.
