A week ago I bought an arctic cooling silencer for my 9800 pro, and I proceded to attach it to my card and put arctic silver 5 on the gpu to replace the old paste. I noticed that I had an R360 core so I decided to flash the bios to an XT bios. I used a Sapphire e-die samsung 128mb bios because I had a sapphire 9800 pro which had samsung on the ram chips.
Everything seemed to go well for a week until a couple days ago my computer was sitting turned on except there was no signal to the monitor. I restarted it and all my case fans/lights/drives/etc came on but there was no boot-up beep from my mobo and my monitor never came on. I swapped in a geforce 5500 pci and it booted up fine.
I then booted to DOS and tried to reload the original 9800 pro bios back into my 9800 pro by booting with the 5500 then sticking the 9800 into the AGP slot. When just the 5500 is in, I type in flashrom -i to see if there are any ati adapters, and it detects none (like it should). But when I put in the 9800 and type in flashrom -i, it just hangs with the floppy light on and I have to do a hard restart. The same thing happens when I try to reflash the bios by typing flashrom -p 0 original.bin, it just hangs.
I'm wondering if I might've screwed on the silencer too tight and it slowly crushed my 9800 to death over a week. I took it off and the chip looks fine to me. Any help or input on this situation would be appreciated. Thanks
