I have tried everything. I just purchased a Abit AI7 MB added my 512 mgs of OCZ ram, Plextor premium drive, 2 40g Maxtor HD's Radeon 9200. I have tried numerous times to load windows 2000 pro and XP pro it starts copying files then tells me it has a problem copying certin files then it locks up the more I try the worse it gets (like something getting too warm). I have tried other copies of windows 2000 with the same result. also added a new hard drive by it self in the system, does the same thing. changed te CDrom to a new Samsung drive. thought it would be the CDrom but same thing. Could it be my 2.4C ? or do I need to look elsewhere? any Ideas?:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:
 
i dunno it doesnt sound like its the chip, if youve tried another hard drive thats not it, thats what i would have guessed.


download and burn the .iso of Memted86 and run that, thatll test your OCZ ram for any errors. if it gives you errors you need to RMA and get new ram, whcih will most likely fiix your problem
 
If the install has problems, RAM could be the problem and would be the first thing you want to test.

Download either memtest86 or memtest+ and test that memory (it boots off a floppy or CD). If there's errors showing up, the RAM's bad and the timings are either off, it's not getting enough voltage, or it's just a bad stick.
 
yeah you need to run memtest. I had similar problems once and it was a problem with one of my sticks of ram.

My bet would be that its one of the sticks of ram.
 
I had a similar problem with an 865 and later 875 based system recently. The memory significant errors. The ram worked in other machines but not that one. I think the reason for this was flat out incompatibility.

But I would test your memory first. It may not be bad so much as incompatible. i865/i875 boards are really picky about memory modules.
