Is MGO fun?

I love MGS4, and was contemplating trying out MGO, although I know I'm going to get my ass kicked the second I log on. Before I put in the time to get decent at it, I was wondering if there is a community for it in the states, and whether it is fun enough (in your opinion) to invest time into. Do many people play it?

Thanks

I hear the Japanese servers are more fun because the Japanese players play more to what is envisioned by the designers and are therefore more into playing roles and benefitting the team through the experience.

whereas here it is apparently mostly a run and gun show.

Haven't actually played it myself. There's got to be a decent size playerbase though. I mean, its MGS afterall.

I played the beta, and it was indeed run and gun, not to mention the idiotic Konami ID system. So I never bothered with it when I got the full game.

In my experience, no. I don't really have the option of revisiting my opinion though since I sold MGS4 about a month ago.

I found it good in the beta.
Then got to the real game...not as good. Loaded it up a few months later, people were hacking/cheating of some sort. Completely ruined it for me.
Plus the sign in crap is idiotic.

it's not for me. the sign-up process is a bit of a hassle and the gameplay is mediocre IMO. i spent a solid week playing it to see if it would grow on me, but it didn't. MGS4 singleplayer is phenomenal. for a good round of MP i usually play SOCOM.

try it for yourself though, what have you got to lose?

I personally spent a lot of time with it, and eventually got decently good. Note that you will get your ass handed over when you first play. It is unlike anything I have ever played. The frustration of getting knife by the same person over and over is very tiresome. But once you get good at it it become very enjoyable. Just don't expect anything similar to usual shooters such as gears and cod. The game expects you to exploit the flaws of the game. This might sound crazy but you will understand when you play more.
