Is it better to go with the AMD X2 4400+ dual core processor that has a 2.2GHz clock with a 1Mb L2 cache (per core) or the X2 4600+ dual core that has a higher clock frequency of 2.4GHz, but a lower L2 cache (of 512Kb per core)?
Not sure if the extra cache provides more performance, or if a lower cache, with higher clock speed would be an advantage?
If I do comparisons, based on prices then;
4400+ is NZ$1100
4600+ is NZ$1500
4800+ is NZ$1880
Thus, the difference between 2.2GHz 1Mb L2 and 2.4GHz 512Kb L2 is NZ$400. Whereas the difference between 2.4GHz 512Kb L2 and 2.4GHz 1Mb L2 is NZ$380. The prices would imply, that the step of .2GHz clock is similar to a difference of 512Kb/1Mb L2 cache.
