Yeah I know... it's ALWAYS worth it to borg... but what I mean is this:
I have access to a dually P3 550 Compaq Server.
Here's the thing.... this beast will probably suck up more juice than 2 p4's due to the redundant PS and the 8GB SCSI drive array (whoopie!!).....
Should I pass on this and wait it out a short while until I can get a few decent folders... or isit worth it to get this thing up folding 24/7 right now?

That's the thing.... If I pass on this now and whine a little about the power requirements and the size I MAY be able to walk out of here with 2 1.8ghz P4's.... it all depends on how I play my cards. It si a dually which would be a nice thing to add to my "look what I have" list..... but I might be able to get more.
The biggest problem is that if I pass I may have to wait a few weeks for something better. If I take it something better may pop up and I'll have already taken a freebie.

Ow..... my head hurts.....

If you were paying for the power on it, I'd pass on it. If someone else is going to be paying for the electricity, I'd borg it.
 
I'd wait for a machine that puts out more points, like those P4s you mentioned.

are not really worth it. Yor gonna get 20-40 PPD off each CPU.
 
OK the Compaq is coming home with me then....
It's got a gig of ram and 2 slot1 550's..... maybe I can upgrade them to 1.0's.... hmmmmm.... $50 each at geeks.com.

Might make it worht it to me.... and I'll fight for the P4's too. We'll see how it works out.

It's at the office...so no pics till morning. Sry.
They give 'US' all the de-comissioned equipment as it gets pulled. Of course i'm the only one not living with parents or in a tiny apartment so I almost alwayse get all of it! :)

I have my eye on a Dell Tower with quad 2.8's that was dropped on it's face. Functions just fine.... looks like a turd. Boss say's it has to go. If we don't get an offer for it this week it goes to the first of us who grabs it.... though the girl i work with may want it and I'll have to either barter away my sould or let her have it to keep the peace.

Oh yeah.... she's the best too! Every bit the geek i am and then some... she has all the checkpoint knowledge (no biggie to me... it's a firewall/vpn solution... whoopie!) and I have all the Linux/Unix knowledge (like she cares.....).

OK... here's my OT thought of the day:
WHy is it that no matter what the situation is women always go straight for the nuts?
Tickle fight? = Nuts
Joking about not letting her go out? = Nuts
Little play fight over the 'clicker'? = Nuts
Being playful in bed? = Nuts (mood killer too girls... it aint fun unless you're being NICE)
Angry cause we looked at another chick? = Nuts
We slapped you? = Nuts (and we probably deserved it too.... )

I can see one situation where goin for the nads is acceptable and it's whenever you're actually threatened and you need the great equalizer.... and that's it.
I think there should be a law that say's "touch the nuts for anything other than foreplay or protection from evil-doers and go to jail."
Of course.... without a "unless their YOUR nuts" clause every guy here would end up in jail 5 minutes after the law took effect.

Ah the male NMI.... I'm pretty sure they go there first as its the quickest way to divert our attention to what we value most. Either that, or it's hardcoded into a woman's instruction set.

If the chick getting the quad is so cool - what's her folding handle and is she folding for the #1 team?
Introduce her - some ladies can do well here, Liz Lehman (#79 in the [H]) being one of them. However due to the inordinate amount of 15yr old male humor focused on the genital region and getting drunk it is tough on them.
