Hello everyone. I currently have a amd 940 be running at 3.7 ghz with a a 7850 running at 1150 ghz. my main game is BF3. on fraps i average about 50 to 60 fps.i have been thinking about building aan 2500 k system but i only game at 1080p. i have ultra settings in the game except one i cant remember if its msaa or ambient something which i shut off. weill i see a big difference in my game play i f i go 2500k?
 
Clocked at 3.7ghz I'd skip out on Sandy and Ivy bridge unless I found a helluva deal.

The 7850 is your main limiting factor in this case, especially for such a gpu heavy game as bf3. Not saying that a 2500k wouldn't improve things, of course, but not as much as a jump to 7950 or equivalent.
 
OC your 7850 to 7870 speeds and wait for price drops, if any. Maybe the new nVidia cards will be competitively priced and offer more bang for buck performance. Grab a 2500k if you can find one for extremely cheap, like below $180 cheap. There's deals non-stop (Microcenter, etc.).
 
It's definitely worth to use a more descriptive subject line.

Im waiting for the midrange cards from Nvidia so I can pick up a 7970
 
Check your GPU usage, if its 90+% its likely a GPU limiting factor.

Standard clock is 870mhz, he has it running at 1150mhz that "should" equal performance between a 7870 and a gtx 580 (in some games). Yeah I know, vague as shit ;).
 
You need to determine where the bottleneck is for your rig, play a good long session of BF3 and graph the GPU and CPU usage and check which of the 2 is struggling.

Remember that the load put on to the GPU varies a lot based on what graphical settings you pick, where as the load on the CPU is mostly fixed, so if your graphics card is the thing struggling you can lower video settings but if your CPU struggles you'll ideally need to upgrade.

I don't believe BF3 is that CPU hungry honestly, but you won't know for sure until you can measure it.
