To fold with a IBM Aptiva 120mhz modded to a 200MMX/96mb ram/1.6gb hdd/ Voodoo 3 2000 pci card running W/95.
I can drop W/98 or W/2k or XP I guess in it but I guess my question is like the thread says.

I'm just trying to put this old box to some good use.
My son in law has a similar Aptiva and is wiling to fold with it too.

No. :) Probably lowest for the new protiens is a P2 400mhz, and thats with it being on 24/7.

FOLD ON!!!

O.K. Thanks
I'm going to put a P2 450 box together from spare parts then.
Folding on:)

Try to see if you can OC the 450. If you find that it takes a long time to complete a WU, and without SSE it probably will, you can try running G@H WUs instead. They are worth less but don't have any time limit. Good luck!

How much difference does SSE actually make?

Anything from 100% to 200% increase in speed.

On my AMD systems...
Without I fold at 0.7 points per hour per Ghz.
With I fold at 1.5 points per hour per Ghz.

With P4's the increase is greater because the fold worse without SSE.

Luck....... :D

I think Bloefield has caught the "Bug".....;)

Don't see you sticking with those 450's for long..I predict faster CPS's in your future:D

Fold on

This is addictive isn't it?
My son in law, an [H]er, and I are going to pool our parts and see what we can come up with for some folding boxes.
Besides the aforementioned P2 450 I've got at least 384mbs of pc 100-133 memory 2-3 sound cards, 3-4 video cards, a brand new WD 80gb 8mb cache hd, burners etc. I can't even think of all the junk I got laying around.
My son in law has an AMD board with 512 mb's ram, a case etc plus 5 working/running pc's in his and my daughters house.
She is a Physician Assistant[PA] and he's appealing to her medical background as a reason to upgrade his nforce 2 board for folding, heh.
Rather than invest $ in getting a lower end unit together for folding maybe I should just get the P4 2.6c/Abit Max3 solution and start this Tually folding.
Wow, so many ways to go with this folding thing unlike just gaming and aiming for high 3dmarks which has gotten a little repetitious and unrewarding laltely.

Yup, your hooked good:D

Folding is all about Mhz plain and simple. More speed, more wu's done. Consider the cheap amd boards and cpus. You don't need fancy, just quantity;)

Oh, by the way? Most of us old guys can quit anytime, anytime we want....

Fold on, enjoy

Oh, also, you would not be the first guy to forgo a case for a pizza box..and with the right setup it will even keep your pizza warm:D

Really?

I have a Hex 333 that I have not used since spring 2002, because I thought it wouldn't make the deadlines. G@H WUs are not worth enough for me to endure the noise it produces, which is like a multi-horsepower vacuum. Not to mention the power consumption. However, if it can make the deadlines as you say...

I just retired Celeron 533 and Duron 933Mhz CPUs because of the slow folding speed. I replaced them with an Athlon XP 1800+ overclocked to almost 2Ghz and will save $60 annually on electricity while boosting production by almost 40%.

Now what to do with that $60 per year over the next 3 year = $180? hmmm!!!

I think it may be time to explore a blade setup with diskless folding!

I might be interested in that Duron for a Folding CPU... :D I think I still have a Socket A board laying around that is idle...

Well I'm almost done with my third WU, a 2500 Gromacs.
Things do go a lot faster when that -forcesse and -advmethods thing is working.:)
Get this, I come home from work and my wife says my neighbor is throwing away some monitors and computer stuff, did I want anything? Hell ya, let me take a look. This is the neighbor I put a pci video card in a HP Pavillion a few years ago after HP told him it was impossible to do,yada yada.
I put a GF 2mx pci in it and his 2 kids played RTCW happily ever after. Anyways I end up with some other Pavillion[600 Celeron I think] that has an agp slot,a Quantum fireball hdd and w/98 on it.
With it came a matching 15" monitor w/speakers, keyboard and mouse. And for good measure he gives me a Compaq desktop pc with new looking Compaq 15" monitor, keeboards, mice speakers, power cords and all kinds of stuff besides the HP for nada.
Everything works
ps
I asked him if anything worked and he said yes everything.
So 'why are you throwing it out?" ' Because they got slow" he said.
Beautiful:)

Sounds like the beginnings of a garden!
