Is it time to upgrade my 6990? I was thinking I should just wait for the 8000 series, but that's another 3+ months...I am running my pc on a Panasonic ar100u 1080p projector...since most of what I do is game with the occasional bluray movie.

Should I wait?

I'm not a fanboy, so I am open to alternatives...Thanks everyone!:)

You know that is a pretty solid card you got there.. I wonder why you are thinking about "upgrading"?
Is it because you are experiencing some serious issues with lag or what?
I'm running 2 6970s and they're still ok. Allthough the only game I have on Linux Steam is HL ;P

Make that 6 months+.

If you want to upgrade now your best bet would be either Titan, GTX690 or the upcoming 7990

Or the already-released "Unofficial" 7990s, but they're more expensive than they're worth due to limited production on all models (especially the ARES II, which I'd buy if it were closer to $1000 instead of $1600+).

Not really. What resolution are you playing at? If you're at 2560x1600 or below, I don't see any reason to. That's still a beast of a card and should be good for a while longer.

I am just playing at 1920x1080, I used to run 3870 in cf....lol back then I thought it was awesome, now omg how could I live without my 6990 lol. Is the 7990 going to be worth it?

6990 should be overkill for 1080, the only cards that beat it outright are the titan, 7990, and 690 gtx so no it wont be worth it.

Yeah at 1920x1080, that 6990 is still a monster and should be shredding thru anything on the market right now. Don't see any need in upgrading for a while yet unless youre wanting to go something like GTX680's in SLI or something like that. Hell even then, you should be getting a billion fps in almost every game with the 6990 so a billion + 10 isn't going to really matter. Instead of dropping the cash on a new GPU, why not get a new monitor? Something like a bad ass 27" HP or even better, one of those 2560x1600 30" screens? Just a thought cause I want one. :D

This has been fun...I have been a member for over 5 years, and never really logged in...just read the forum a lot. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Come on guys, upgrading is fun!

One alternative would be to replace your 6990 by a second hand 7970/680.
It seems a relatively inexpensive way to get rid of any potential multiple GPU issues without giving up performance.
