I built my latest computer in June of '03 the following are the specs:

P4 2.4C overclocked to 3192
Abit IC7-G
2x512mb Corsair XMS PC3500 DDR
Sapphire Radeon Pro 9800 over clocked to 437mhz Clock, 357 mhz Mem
NEC FP912 18" CRT

I'm actually quite surprised I've gotten 2 years out of this hardware as I usually upgrded every 12-18 months. I am starting to feel the upgrade bug come over me again! :D Im wondering if you guys think the time is right to upgrade now or to wait until the next generation (R520, dual core Athlon) come out...

Some things I am considering:
A64 3500+ with and SLI MB and a 6600GT
Dell 2005FPW monitor...

Any opinions?

To be honest? The way you have that computer clocked, I would wait. You've still got a good computer there, so I don't think there's any reason to upgrade right now. I'd personally wait it out since I feel it would be a waste. But it's still your choice anyway, and the 3500+ might just have the power you're looking for.

well if i were you i would wait a bit for the new chips...ect to come out. As stated above, you have a decent runnin rig. But why not jump on the LCD? wait for the next good deal on it and pick it up. Otherwise I would wait.......

I agree as well - that system is gonna still be good, even in possibly 6 months time. Wait for all the new technology to come out and be established, then go for it. Maybe an upgrade to the video card might improve performance, but if you can wait for stuff like the R520 to come out, then I would wait. But i wouldn't wait for the LCD, if you have the money and find a good deal, get it.

I would get a 3200+ Venice and a DFI Ultra-D and overclock it and buy yourself a cheap video card to tide you over till the new cards are out from ATI and nVidia then upgrade to one of those.

your rig is real close to my intel rig. if you are itching to upgrade something get an x800pro like i did. i had an 9800pro. i love my x800pro. i would wait for now.i still think 9800pro is a good card.

OK...so after i thought about it a little last night...I'm gonna hold off...

I'm going to pull the trigger on the LCD though...as soon as a dell deal comes up...either a 2001 or a 2005

For hardware im gonna wait until the g70 hits the street build an sli sytem around one...

I am amazed though that this hardware has remained viable for so long...

It is pretty amazing that your stuff has lasted. Good luck with the monitor I want to get a nice Dell LCD so badly but I don't really have any money right now.

I really dont either, but if the sub $500 deals come out again I wont be able to pass it up

the abit ic7 g ............got good reviews from what i remember from alot of forum sites. thats why i chose that board almost three years ago. im running everything at stock and it turns on everyday without a hitch like its suppose to. this was my first system that i researched most of the parts and i would definately get abit again.
