Is it possible to work without Discreate GPU?

I am planning to configure a gaming rig 4770K or 4790K with Asus Z87 or 97 chipset.

Since the cost of GTX 290X and 780Ti is till too high for me and my aim is to game at 2560 X 1440 / 1600 resolution.

Therefore I decided that I will buy, the processor, Mobo, RAM, GPU and case first, use my old monitor and IGP, and within 3 months when Maxwell is released, I will buy a GTX 860 and a 1440 monitor, where GTX 860 should be equal to 770 or better in terms of perfomance at less price.

My question is, can a PC work with IGP, we I exclude the gaming?

Yes, Intel's integrated graphics are now quite capable.

My Haswell Lenovo x240 plays civ v really well. Integrated are pretty good now.

The iGPU is perfectly capable of driving a 1440/1600p monitor if you want to get that now as well. It just won't do good in gaming, but it should be playable with older games on lower settings.
