Number one, has anyone ever done this?
Number two, I'm planning on getting a Sapphire PI-A9RX480 (that white mobo), and it has 4 SATA 1 ports and 2 SATA 2s. However, the hard drives that I'm planning on getting (2x 36g raptors, 2x 400g WDs, and I already have 2x 120g WDs) are all SATA1. Are the SATA2 ports backwards compatible?

Yes, but why would you? Any of your six (!) drives dies and you lose data, right then.

And don't buy 36 gb raptors, one 74 will outperform a pair of 36es.

 
Ah hah, thanks for the tip on the raptor.
I just got an email back from Sapphire saying that the board can't support 3 separate RAID0s, so that's out no matter what.
