is it possable to share my laptop dvdrom over the network to my ps3?

tried right clicking the driver but the "share" buttons greyed out (vista os)

yes you can.

Share your disc drive using tversity or ps3 media server. When you insert a new disc, you'll need to refresh the media server though.
