Is It My Video Card?

Hey well I built my system in August and I have been having lots of problems. I am not sure if it is a heat issue, video card issue, or what. Here are my specs:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Mobo
ATI Radeon X800XL 256MB Vid Card
AMD 64 3500+ Venice Core
2048 MB OCZ PC3200 Memory
Western Digital 200gb HD
500 watt Ultra X connect PSU

Basically I am having trouble playing ALL games. With any source game or HL2 I am getting either "The Instruction at 0x####### referenced memory at 0x#######. The memory could not be 'read" error or the hole system will freeze with looping sounds. Sometimes while just browsing the web the hole system will just freeze. When I am playing BF2 the game will crash to the desktop. When I turned off the VPU recover feature the game would go black screen for a few seconds then go back to the game. While playing Diablo 2 my system will freeze with looping sounds. I dont think this is a heat issue (but it could be) because I removed the side panel off my comp and put a little fan. I am using the new Catalyst drivers. Any help would be appreciated.

Well im not to in depth as most other guys around here, but ive had problems like that in the past. To correct it Ive tried putting in differant ram. Do you have extra ram laying around that you can put in and test?

I'm with Sedris, It sounds like a ram issue.. Try lowering your ram timings in BIOS and see if it helps... Or, even better, run memtest.. http://www.memtest86.com/ .. If you get errors, try running your ram modules 1 at a time to see if only 1 them is bad.. Hope it helps..

I know what it's like to build a brand new system and have dumb BS happen to it. I hope everything works out for you.

Like they said, make sure your RAM is working. Run Memtest86 and then try SuperPI.

it could very well be that pos power supply you have. Those aren't known for being the greatest of PSU's and it sound like this is a well rounded problem that is showing up in everything. If you can, I highly recommend trying a different one in there. Just start isolating the problem. If you put a different PSU in there and it still happens, then you can scratch that off the list. If you don't have access, maybe just order a cheap Fortron PSU off newegg for 30 bucks or so. If it doesn't solve anything, send it back or keep it as a spare, which isn't a bad idea with the X-connect ;)

Try changing the ram timings from 1T to 2T since you're are using 2GB, if you're using a 3500+ of an older core not the Venice then it most probably could be the ram, thats if you're using 4 mem sticks, because the mem controller in the older cores have problem with reading 4 mem banks full.

Sounds like a ram issue for sure. Take one stick out and keep one in. Try and play some games like that. if it errors then swap that stick out and try the other. if it doesn't error you have 1 bad stick of ram and u know which one it is. If you get errors w/ both sticks I would look else where.. Perhaps video card.. Swap it out w/ ur friends or other pc and see if it works or not.

Everytime i've gotten these types of errors it has been ram though ^-^
