Is it my HD or Windows?

I've reformated around 3 times and reinstalled Windows using two different disks and used Home and Pro. Every time I start up, the first thing I do is DL Firefox and the latest nVidia video drives. Windows tries to open the firefox installer with 7-Zip, and program that I used before I formatted, and that naturally gives me an error and won't let me open zipped files. I try and run the video drivers and and it tells me the installer is corrupted, even though I've DL'd it from nVidias main site multiple times. Has my HD finally died, or could it be bad mobo drivers or something? I'm lost and I miss my gaming box
