I have been noticing that the 6800 series of cards suck for 3dmark. Whats up with that? I mean, obviously, you buy the card to play games (which is why I am buying the BGF 6800 Ultra) but looking on the ORB has left me disheartened. I enjoy benchmarking and competing, regardless of how relevant it is (dont start flaming me about how 3dmark sux, i think its fun). How come the 6800 series is so much weaker than the x800 series in both 03 and 01 (in 3dmark01, theres only 1 6800 series over 30K, where as there are lots of x800s, and even one x800 over 35k  )? Is there a technical reason? and PLEASE don't say that ATI or nvidia sux, blah, blah, blah. DO NOT turn this into a fan boy war. I just want to know why nvidia is competing fairly with ATI in game benchmarks, and getting crushed in 3dmark.

It sucks for 3dmark 2k1 (dx8), but anything over 14,000 marks is pretty much good enough for those games...it really shines on 2k3 (dx9) though...which is where the future is, and IMO, much more important.
